Max, you win! It was the white peaking. Turning it off (default was on full)enabled the contrast, brightness and color controls to get a reasonably good color image from VGA. White peaking is not a control I'm used to looking for, and it's use is counterintuitive. I let Dell's third level...

Haven't done much with the white peak. I'll try it and reducing cable length. Colors all appear dark and undersaturated. Thanks for the ideas. -Scott

I had heard that due to impedance issues that the DB15 on the VGA card should be bypassed and coax cable for each signal run from the card directly to the projector. It sounded a bit extreme, but... -Scott
