The most expensive film of the year Pearl Harbor is no.1 but only just, Shrek has done extremely well for a non-Disney animated movie, and its still the no.1 film of the year in the US, lets see if Monsters inc passes it.

Can this one count for worldwide box office. It hasn't seen a release in North America yet......or has it? Has it gone the art house circuit already?

Spirited Away probably grossed 184m in Japan only, a huge anime hit in that country, but I think the most popular Japanese movie is still the epic anime Princess Mononoke by the same director, not sure if Spirited Away has beaten that.

Shrek no.1 in the US and Spirited Away no.1 in Japan, animation rules!

Well, it is #1 all time in Japan, since it just recently passed Titanic, which was the previous recordholder, ahead of PM.

Thanks for the numbers on Spirited Away, since I hadn't heard what the official totals were. Impressive.

I really would like to see "Spirited Away" but even if it is released in NA, it has a snowball's chance in hell of ever making it into a theatre where I live.

Actually Edwin it might Princess Mononoke made it to Victoria for a few weeks (saw it 4 times even though it was dubbed). So Spirited Away might make in a few months because it would make a good late winter/early spring release.
