I was just wondering why and how protable DVD players got so cheap. I just saw an ad for a 7in portable DVD player from Kmart for $98. I swear that two years ago the cheapest 7 in screen was over $500. So, what happened?

It's called "economy of scale." Enough people started buying them, the manufacturers end up making more of the things, and, ergo, the price plummets.

Also manufacturing has shifted to China where manufacturing costs are quite a bit lower.

This is due in part to environmental laws that are barely enforced by their *Communist* government, so manufacturers can dump insidious waste products pretty much wherever they want to, helping many manufacturers' bottom lines.
