Mulholland Drive is the best film of 2001, and I don't think Harry Potter nor Lord of the Rings is going to change that fact. :)
Some titles you should add:
Lost and Delirious
Waking Life
Italian For Beginners
Divided We Fall
The Deep End
Heist
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
etc.
Or you could just check out my 2001 Film List. :)

Happy Accidents; if you need room, lose Planet Of The Apes, Heartbreakers or Tomb Raider. Heck, that gives you room for The Man Who Wasn't There and Heist, too.

I updated the list and it is the final one that will be used.
I tried to get as many of your suggestions as i could in.
With some of them: Happy Accidents, Italian for Beginners and Divided We Fall, I don't think that enough people have seen them to make a dent in the tourney.
OK So, here we go:
First to five in the first two rounds.
Memento
vs.
Rat Race

Also, what about adding The Dish in the 2001 film list? It's better then half the films on the list.

Umm... Do we have to have seen both movies?
If not, The Dish, what with K-Pax having that "Hi, I'm Kevin Spacey. Look at me, I'm acting ka-way-zee. GIMME AN OSCAR!" trailer.
Otherwise, pass.

I've given it some thought...since the tournament is for the best movie of the year and not really about each individual matchup you should vote for the movies you think deserves consideration for the best movie of the year. So your vote for the dish sill be counted.

I'd say Heist, but it's the only movie I've seen in theaters this year, so I'm probably not the best one to ask. I'm sure, however, that it, along with Mullholland Drive and The Man Who Wasn't There, is among the best.

I'm unbelievably shocked that "Amélie" is nowhere on that list!!! :)
The film is also known as "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain" and, right now, it's #39 in the http://us.imdb.com/Title?0211915
