I'm going out to Las Vegas with some friends this weekend, and we'd like to check out some HT stores if there are any good ones in the area. I'd especially like to hear some Sonus Faber speakers since there are no dealers where I live. Any suggestions?
Also, are there any pawn shops there that would carry any high-end electronics?
Thanks

There aren't any pawn shops that cary 'high-end' equipment. Everything is pretty average.
HT stores:
Good Guys on Maryland Parkway/across from Best Buy.
Then there is Ultimate Electronics :
2555 E Tropicana Ave & another one on 741 S. Rainbow Blvd.
Suncoast(for DVD's) at the Boulavard Mall(Next to Best Buy & Good Guys)

You guys need to get your priotities straight. Don't go to Vegas for the HT stores, unless they have slot machines. :)

Ryan,
First I would have to say that David is right what the hell are you thinking coming here to listen to Home Theater stores? You have to gamble all your money away and support our local economy

No really I am not sure of a store that carries the exact speakers you are looking for but the store that I highly recommend for medium to High end equipment is...
Dcs Image Sound
4057 Industrial Road
Las Vegas, NV 89103 USA
702-876-3401 (Tel) Link Removed
Great store and is just across from the Strip in front of the RIO hotel/casino. They have individual salesmen for each person, Private listening rooms, Full theater room, etc. Check their website to see if they carry the speakers you are looking into.
Best of luck

Ryan DOES have his priorities straight... after winning thousands of dollars at the blackjack tables he has to put it somewhere safe. Cash can be stolen, but a really heavy amp would be hard to run away with.
And I'm not just saying that because I'm going with him and hoping to "accidentally" switch luggage on the way home. :)

One more place to check. The Upper Ear. I only go there when I really want to convince myself that if I didn't hold myself to my budget, that I could have gone *REALLY* crazy with spending money.
It's on the north side of Charleston, just west of Valley View.
Can't compare it to Dcs Image Sound, as this is the first I've heard of it, though it sounds nice.
I've heard of people occasionally finding a real bargain in a pawn shop, but it's more likely that you'll have problems instead.

Yes, Vegas stinks for high tech. Just look at the computer stores. About all we have is CompUSA. I can't find basic things like gender changers in Vegas, except in the phone book under "Entertainers." I'm about to build a HTPC, and I know what's going to happen is I'm going to find I need some simple $2 connector to finish it, and I'll have to wait a week and pay $5 shipping to get it by mail.
Ultimate Electronics on Tropicana is one of the better HT spots. It's big, and has a large selection of speakers, and when they have sales their prices are reasonable. Make sure you get them to give you a tour of their secret front projector room with 7.1 sound. Of course, there may be an Ultimate Electronics in your area too. The Ultimate Electronics on Rainbow is not as good.
As for the pawn shops, they are awful and overpriced (though they expect you to haggle them down.) However, you can shop on-line right now at www.superpawn.com and maybe find a bargain there.

Abdul, I usually have pretty good luck finding gender changers and such at Computer Warehouse of Nevada. I don't shop them for major parts, but they tend to have a better selection of smaller, "odd-ball" parts than the chains do.

Eric is right about Computer Wearhouse it is a decent spot to find most things locally though a little pricy IMO. DCS( McIntosh, Rotel, Integra, Theta Digital) is a store that carries a lot of higher end gear without pressured sales people. Ultimate Electronics(Denon, Yamaha, Krell) is a pretty good store, they carry quite a bit of equipment, and have a lot of Demo rooms but still true sales people. If you want you can go to the DCS website I linked and actually see one of the Demo rooms Live that they have.

Ryan, the only way to know what a pawn shop has is to make the circuit and check them out. There is absolutely no way to predict from one day to the next what will come in the door next, and people from ALL walks of life and ALL levels of taste find it necessary to enlist the services of pawnbrokers from time to time.
The vast majority of the time, you'll find nothing but low-end to mid-end gear, but you never know for sure unless you keep a check on it.

The Upper Ear has been closed I think for a year now.
Check out Premier Home Entertainment on 2300 N. Rainbow, several people from the Upper Ear work there.

Hey check outwww.imsoco.com The place is called Image Sound & Control. It is run by a Guy named Don Calley. They have done work for many important and famous people. Like Las Vegas's New Mayor Oscar Goodman, Robert DeNiro, Jerry Lewis, Former LV Mayor Jane Jones, a few casinos and other places.
Its the same place that Kyle mentioned but they have a new website.

Ryan,
They don't have the gear you're looking for but you have to visit Abbott's Audio and Video. Ask for Val to give you a tour. Maybe a DVDA demo. Tell them Allen sent you, that we're both HTF members. They get a kick out of it.
