Okay,
I've seen that you all are pretty fond of the Onkyo HTS - 650.
But I've noticed that you can get just the speakers for around $250. By buying the speakers and pairing them with an inexpensive reciever (say the sherwood RD6108 ~ $130 or the panasonic HE70 ~$180), you could get a complete set for $50-100 less than buying the onkyo set.
Would it be a bad idea to break up the set? Would those recievers be worse than the onkyo's?

Thanks for any input.

In my opinion, they would be. I have not, however, done side-by-side comparisons of any of them, and the specs on the Panny SA-HE70 are pretty good. I do notice that Panny rates their power into 1kHz of bandwidth, and Onkyo into 65Hz-20kHz...

For the price, that's a great system as it is,
