Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

This thread has been an interesting but failed experiment. When I started this in February, the pandemic was just coming into its own. I had hoped that we could use this space to discuss our concerns during a rapidly growing global crisis. What I failed to realize is that it would be...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

I'm with you, Mark. We have lost the war. And it's a shame. With proper leadership, we could have beat this virus. Decades from now, people will look back in complete horror as to how this pandemic was handled (or not handled) Take care of yourself and let the ignorant take the risks.

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Personally, I think every American should be mandated to wear a mask. Fines are given immediately to those who don't That's the only way to contain this pandemic that has grown to apocalyptic proportions. Thing is, constitutionally, I don't think anyone can mandate everyone to wear a mask...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

The sad truth is we can't go through a shutdown again. That put too many people out of work. Businesses are closing forever. The sad truth is people are going to have to die to keep everything open and moving. But it doesn't have to be that way. If everyone wore a mask we could have...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Mark, I think there are now two camps in this situation... Those of us that understand science, believe what doctors and scientists are telling us, but see that there is no leadership in taking care of the situation so why talk about it anymore? Then there is the other camp that believes we...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

That's kind of what I thought. My insurance company gives me free flu shots and a free annual exam. It costs them much less to keep me healthy than have to pay my hospital bills. I am kind of hoping that the same thing will apply to whatever vaccine eventually gets introduced.

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

We don't know if it will cost people anything. Flu shots are given out for free. I am not certain why -- I think it has to do with the affordable care act -- but I would hope one of the reasons is to keep people healthy, out of the hospital and drive down the costs of taking care of sick...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Though this is not a vaccine, if it's the real thing, it's just as good as having a vaccine. It just means that we can treat those that would normally have died. I hope this is a genuine article and this treatment is the real deal. For if it is, it's the first sign of "hope" we have seen

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Leo, I, for one, am not saying a cure CAN'T be around the corner. However, right now medical experts are looking at what we feel is "the sure cure." And that is almost two years away. However, absolutely, someone could wake up tomorrow yelling "I have cured COVID-19" and they very well may...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Agreed. 60 minutes, a very reputable news program, did a report almost two months ago regarding a possible vaccine. At that point, 18 months was the estimate. However, even then, it would have to be massed produced, and everyone inoculated. That could take even much longer. True, there...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

The world will not be locked up forever. Things are slowly opening now. The reality is this... We will open up. People will continue to die at an unprecedented rate. This will continue for at least two years until a vaccine could be available. If your opinion is sooner, so be it...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

There's no vaccine around the corner. Just talks from small companies racing to get there but with nothing (thus far) promising.

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Look for a video called "Plandemic". It may be hard to find and I certainly don't want to post it here. YouTube keeps taking it down. There are a lot of conspiracy theories out there about the pandemic, Bill Gates, etc. It's pretty discouraging because doctors are saying they are under...

Sorry, guys. I am just reading posts at face value today. I should have seen the humor.

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Had no idea about any religious restrictions. That's really sad because the mask is the only thing protecting you out in public and working alongside others. Without it, your chances of getting COVID-19 are enormously greater. Yeah, that would probably be the reason for the huge spike in...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Oh my God! What an irresponsible attitude to say one does not need to wear a mask. I see these kinds of statements all over Facebook and it gets me red hot. As stated above this post, a lot of people are catching and spreading the disease without showing symptoms. It can take 14 days for...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

That's downright dangerous! I can't believe so many people are deciding not to wear masks. Stay safe, Clint!

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

This is a great article. One of the best I have read as far as the risk of contracting COVID-19 under numerous conditions. I am retired. I plan to stay isolated for two years if necessary. No big deal for me. I used to be afraid of grocery shopping but I see how well the stores have been...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

The news is non-stop and will drive you mad if you keep it on all day. I limit myself to watching my favorite news coverage for an hour each morning and then turn it off. For me, however, the news is more reliable than what (let me put it this way) any government is telling us. I still enjoy...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Leo, You and I are going to be on opposite sides of the fence when it comes to our media. I am going to step on eggshells here, but at this point in our history, I trust what is coming out of the media more than anyone else. The top journalists in our country have worked very hard to build...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

If our economy is in depression-era territory I am fine with The New York Times not watering down the impact of that information. We MAY have a vaccine ready this fall, but to date, there is no indication of that. The most promising one is 17 months away. However, yes, there have been a lot...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

I thought we had a free press whose responsibility it is to give us the news. I am assuming that the headline is correct. Economists have been warning us for weeks we are heading into the depression-era territory. And as for vaccines, they could still be 17 months away. Even then, they would...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Well, we are certainly debating back-and-forth about how lens perspective can distort the truth. I absolutely agree with that. However, the two photos shown in my post above (#1986) seem to be from two different locations. I think overhead shots taken from a helicopter are the best...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Unless I am totally misunderstanding, this conversation is about how we see a beach that is supposedly crowded according to one photo but given another, it isn't. Yet, the contradictory photos being represented aren't even of the same exact locations.

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

I am being completely fair. You can't say there is manipulation of photos if you don't show the same two photos side-by-side

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Sorry, not buying that these are the same exact photos taken from different lens perspectives. Nor does that particular photo of a single-car represent lens technique when it comes to multiple objects in a photo. This looks like either two different locations on the beach, or, the second photo...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

Carlo, With all due respect... You can take that photo at any angle and it's not going to change a thing. That beach is plenty filled with people. Not only that, but I don't see protective masks on their faces. Not only that, but there are also people walking across the beach close to...

Is it time to talk about coronavirus?

You are not wrong. On the news is footage of Michigan and California protestors, gathering in herds, protesting their rights. In Orange County last week the beaches were overpacked with people who wore no protection. We are doomed in getting this under control by expecting the general public...
