I just finished watching this very strange episode and had lots of questions. However, Greg pretty much makes clear what I was kind of thinking.... Perhaps our escapees just passed through Purgatory and were told it's not their time yet.

I don't know if this has been brought up already... I just finished watching THE BIG LEBOWSKI for the first time this morning. The guy who plays Vargas is in that movie. I immediately recognized him in Maude's apartment at the giggling Knox.
