I have to agree.
I hated the last Star Trek film because of its reference to WOK.
While watching, I became infuriated that it was recreating the WOK death scene almost word-for-word.
Why go there? Why redo an entire scene like that? It ruined the film. I'll never watch it again.

I can see why Lucas is disgruntled. Disney didn't want HIS ideas and fans are actually liking a Star Wars movie, for the first time, in many years.

Back in the day, I believe there were only 5 pictures nominated.
Today, there are almost a dozen.
So, certainly, chances are great that Star Wars will get a best picture nomination.
It's not that hard to do anymore.
(However, realistically, not particularly Best Picture nominated material)

Yeah, for the most part, Abrams remade the first movie.
He played it safe, and that's why it worked.
Still, he managed to keep it somewhat fresh and entertaining.
Saw it twice in 3D Imax. The NYC screening had a much larger screen.
....but am I right about the 2 pop-out moments? I believe those were the only two prominent pop-out moments.
...and no, it's not all about pop-out --- but those two moments were pretty cool.

I agree. Though I miss the Fox fanfare, the best thing they did was a silent LucasFilm logo. Very respectful.
I didn't view it as much poignant, but a very clever way for the audience to keep tabs on the one particular stormtrooper out of his dozens of lookalikes.
