I appreciate that Barbie is worth talking and thinking about. It was a so-so experience for me. But it’s a movie with depth about something. Some movies (Avengers Civil War is my go-to example) that are just vapid. Maybe they’re fun, maybe they’re not. But they don’t merit any further...

Barbie also gave me Hudsucker Proxy vibes during the Mattel office scenes, insofar as I vaguely remember Hudsucker Proxy from watching however long ago. :)

You’re right, it’s not a dead-on match. That was my quick gut reaction as the movie got going and I was understanding what it was doing. But as we connect movies and styles to each other, Barbie feels like Toy Story and Lego and a little multi-verse to me, compared to other styles and genres...

I commented on this just prior, but I liked this aspect of the themes being wider scope than just anti-misogyny. It was a bit messy. Barbies aren’t perfect, even though they thought they were, as setup in the beginning, and hadn’t shaken that fully off by the end.
