For me, as Sam would say, it's just the "cost of doing business", and I'll buy what $200 extra stuff is needed to to charge all the iPhones when we upgrade.
But most people I know hate this stuff. They see it as a trillion dollar company intentionally confusing people to save pennies or earn...
I thought I understood Apple leaving out the charging block, and was in favor of it, even knowing it was profit-positive for them. And if Apple had included the typical USB-A to Lightning cable, the story I think still would have been pretty straight forward.
But reading reviews and...
@Ronald Epstein and @Sam Posten Should we lock this thread and have all iPhone posts go to the owners thread? I'm starting to get confused where to post on the topic? Or do you have a division in mind of reviews go here and actual owners comments go there?
I plan to do similar: Pacific Blue Pro Max 128GB. I'll start off case-less and see how that goes. I was going to pre-order first day. But some stuff has come up, so I might be waiting until mid December. I'd like to have the new camera for the holidays, but it can wait until 2021 if that's how...
This is a good review. But it’s the comments on Apple's conflation of "pro" with "boring" that gets my attention. I said as much a week ago, and I'm gratified to not be alone. :)
iPhone 12 & iPhone 12 Pro review: Family resemblance – Six Colors...
I considered waiting for the next Pro. But given the iPad Air price increase, I think it’s a cinch that the (presumed) 2021 iPad Pro will increase at least $100 to start at $899, if not $999. So, iPad Air it is. It’s really the sweet spot in 2020 for the non-pro enthusiast.
The DF price summary made me realize why I’m ok with the Pro Max this year compared to last year. Last year, when I considered upgrading, I was looking at the 11, because the 11 Pro was $300 more expensive (!) and the 11 Pro Max was $400 more expensive (!!). And getting above 64GB made the...
Free Apple TV+ subscriptions officially extended to Feb. 2021 – Six Colors

While 5G isn’t any better than LTE today, I’m happy to get 5G in my next phone in case it matures and becomes better in the next few years.
MacBreak Weekly noted that the iPhone drops down to LTE if it’s not getting 5G speeds, to save battery.
$10/mo gives you Ultra speeds for data access. I...
5G alone won’t be enough to justify buying an iPhone this year - The Verge

Looking at purchasing and Verizon plan options I learned that “Nationwide 5G” is standard but “5G Ultra Wide” is a $10/mo extra premium, including on the Unlimited plans.
looks like I’ve got 5G ultra wide band around me.
but also this is my home reception, at best. I need Wifi calling to ensure stable phone calls. So I’m skeptical about 5G at home.

12s are about 0.1” taller, so factor that in if you care.
Nope :) See the dates on Apple.com front page.
Also, the rumors were right. They predicted immediate ordering of the 6.1” and November order of the other phones.
Ok, found printable cutouts for the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, which are very close to 12 Pro sizes, and did some quick comparo to my 8+. I'm now reminded of how the Pro is appreciably smaller than the 8+, and the Pro Max is a skosh taller but same width.
I think I want Pro with Pro Max cameras. :)
I felt very strongly this year the iPhone maturity: very little of the announcements were particuarly interesting. A huge emphasis was put on 5G, but we all know that it's, at most, marginally better than LTE right now. And the use cases -- playing competitive video games while outside in the...
Welp, starting to look like I might get the Pro Max despite my disinterest in the giganto screen. I need all the Computational Images for taking snapshots of my cats!
Bummed that "Pro" means boring colors. I'd rather have the bold blue of the 12 than the so-called pacific gray...
Tomorrow evening I start making the real decision over which iPhone to buy and when.
I've been intent on upgrading all year. But now that it's impending, that $1000+ price tag is feeling real, and I'm starting to have second thoughts. I'm not traveling. I'm probably not going anywhere for the...
Not sure what you're saying regarding new security tech. My view is simple: evaluate on its merits.
There are no privacy concerns with TouchID and FaceID, by design. None have emerged. None have been reported. I challenge anyone to show otherwise.
New security features can also improve...
