    Hidden Screen Project

With the AV closet too far from the TV to see what is on the screen, I decided to do something about it. I added a 7" monitor to the AV closet and looped it in from the AVPro HDMI extender. Now when I work in the closet, I can see what is playing in the main room and can see the receiver menu...

    AVA Remote

No, I don't have to use apps to control things. I did test the remote with the apps for a week but haven't used any since. I run RTI on the remote which is programmed to run everything. The remote will run in kiosk mode with automation programs like RTI or Crestron. I've been using the...

    Hello to everyone.

Why are you using the speaker in & out on the sub? You should be using the line level input on the sub from the sub out on the receiver. Then turn on sub in the receiver and set the front speakers to SMALL. Set the crossover in the receiver to 80hz and turn the crossover all the way up on the...

New open home/shop barndo construction build. Suggestions for high quality systems!?

I wouldn't totally write off using an av dealer. Depending on how deep you want to get into whole home automation, you may need a dealer to program it. Also, Lutron Caseta is great bit it is limited. Lutron RadioRa3 can be programmed to do way more. With Ra3 you can use 4 button keypads and...

New open home/shop barndo construction build. Suggestions for high quality systems!?

You just have to install a network switch at the locations where you have multiple devices that need to be networked.

New open home/shop barndo construction build. Suggestions for high quality systems!?

If you hire a company to install your network, they will probably install Luxul, Araknis, Ruckus or Ubiquiti and they will charge you to monitor it. I recommend installing Ubiquiti access points yourself with the Ubiquiti Cloud Key and you can monitor it yourself. The Cloud Key will keep all...

New open home/shop barndo construction build. Suggestions for high quality systems!?

You mentioned liking Marantz receivers, so you could run a Marantz in the main room and Heos amps in the other zones. This way you can link all the zones for music or play what's on the TV to the other areas. If you don't want to be tied to an av dealer, you could install Lutron Caseta...

New open home/shop barndo construction build. Suggestions for high quality systems!?

Do you want this to be self installed? Do you want touch panels around the home? You can get a Yamaha receiver in the main room for surround sound and then the Yamaha XDA-QS5400 quad streamer for 4 other zones. You can run the MusicCast system from a smart phone or tablet. If you want to go...

    A New Receiver

Are you going to listen to music with the streaming service in the receiver? I would check out demo's for Heos and MusicCast. I really like my Marantz receiver but avoid Heos because I don't care for how it works. In my opinion, MusicCast from Yamaha is easier to use. I dislike Heos enough...

    AVA Remote

Here is the remote. I had to break it into 2 parts to upload it. I really like the remote, I've been using it all week and have no big complaints.

Yamaha RX-A870 stuck in Straight mode, Party Mode and DSP not working

I've seen quite a few Yamaha's have weird issues when they don't fully complete an update. Leave the receiver on and then unplug it. This will force it to do a hard reload and will complete the update if that is the issue.

    AVA Remote

I scored one of the original remotes last week. It's a little smaller than I thought it would be but looks really good. Programming was straight forward and easy to get going. I added the remote to my RTI programming and downloaded the app on the remote. It works very well with RTI. It does...

    AVA Remote

Their first remote had no physical buttons, it was pretty much just an Android tablet in the shape of a remote. It can be programmed in Kiosk mode where it's locked down to one program. Which means it can be setup as a remote for Creston, Savant, RTI or Elan. The one thing it won't do, is run...

    AVA Remote

They also will have the "Nano Brain" that will basically be like the Harmony Hub for $399. So that means if you want to make it comparable to the Harmony Elite with remote and hub, this setup will set you back almost $1700.

    AVA Remote

There's a new remote coming out from AVA that looks interesting. They say it's a replacement for the Harmony remotes but at $1200, I don't see that happening.

HT-A9 Speakers and STR-DH790 Receiver setup

Are you connecting this to a TV? Connect the sources to the TV and the HT-A9 to the HDMI/ARC of the TV. Make sure HDMI control and ARC are turned on and the TV should control the sound system. The DH790 is not needed as John explained above.

Opinions of positioning for In-ceiling Front speakers

I wouldn't move them, it would sound disconnected from the screen. There are companies like GoldenEar, that make ceiling speakers that are angled toward the listening position. Not a perfect solution, but a better one for in ceiling speakers.

Is there a way to configure my Receiver and TV so I can continue to watch the game while playing music from another input? New 4K box no optical audio

What is the make and model of the receiver? Some manufacturers allow a video source to play through on an audio source. Which means you could have the game play through on the music input.

    Soundbar from receiver ARC

You could look at buying a passive soundbar that will connect to the receiver.

    New Remote Time

Here's two videos that show the touch panel. The one video shows the theater mode I programmed in. When I press theater mode the video switches to the projector, TV turns off, screen drops, Lutron shade drops in the back, lights dim and turn blue and after 15 seconds the two front lights turn...

    New Remote Time

I've run remotes from Harmony, URC, Control4 and more and this has been the most versatile to program how I want it. It does have to be professionally programmed but I am certified in RTI programming and do all the programming myself. I've also programmed URC, Control4, ProControl, RadioRa2...

    New Remote Time

It's an RTI system. I run an XP6s processor with a KX7 touchpad built into the wall and a few different remotes. The main remote I use is the T4X. I have 6 audio zones throughout the house with 30 speakers between the house and pool/patio area. The RTI system controls all the sub systems like...

I couldn't leave it alone. I did a complete re-program on our remote. I also installed new Lutron shades and Lutron RadioRa3 light switches that are all programmed into the remote.

    Controlling everything in my theater.

"Not sure why that should require an expensive pro installation/configuration..." Because the software is not available to non-dealers on most higher end remotes. There are other systems out there for a DIYer but it will not be easy to make them do everything on the list. A professionally...

    Controlling everything in my theater.

There are remotes that can do everything you want but they normally require professional programming. URC, RTI, Control4 and Pro Control are a few I can think of. My preference is RTI because it is infinitely programable. You can have a single button press turn on the projector, receiver...

    Is Origin Acoustics any good?

They are good speakers. The founders of Origin created Speakercraft in the 80s and invented the first in wall speaker. After they sold Speakercraft, they took a few years off and then started Origin. I prefer the D65 and up. The cool thing about these is that the hole size for the 6" speaker...
