Thanks for the advices I ended up finding a program called Tuxera for my Mac that allowed me to reformat the drive to NTFS and let me save the video in the flash drive. Star Wars looks great on the projector!
I am trying to watch some downloaded Star Wars files (Harmy's Despecialized Edition) on my new projector. I have a Samsung E5400 which supports external hard drives, but I can not get the .mkv files transferred to a flash drive because they are too large for the fat32 format. In addition, I use...
I got surprised with a projector for a Christmas present this year and it was actually the model I had been thinking about getting and then deciding against. The BenQ W710st. I decided to give it a try even though I had decided on a different projector and I was very surprised with how impressed...
Yeah, I saw that and I also saw that there was another model (w1080st) that is the short throw. I was assuming also that these two models would replace the w700/710st models. March seems like a long time, but I think it will be worth the wait.
All right, after thinking I would be ok with 720p, I kept thinking about the posts in my other thread and they started to get to me. I started looking around for 1080p projectors that would project at least a 100" image at a maximum of 10 ft. The BenQ w7010 seems like it would be the perfect...
Here is one that I have been looking at... http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-YHT-497-5-1-Channel-Theater-System/dp/B007PU2Y4S/ref=zg_bs_281056_19
I wasn't sure though if I understand the video pass through/audio return correctly. If I plugged my devices into the HDMI ports on the receiver, and then...
Hi all, I am looking to get a sub $400 sound system to go with a BenQ W710ST (http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-W710ST-Short-Theater-Projector/dp/B006ISZM2E)
The devices that will be connected are a DirectTV Genie Receiver, a Wii U, and a Blu Ray Player. Does anyone have suggestions on a sound system...
Regarding the 720p, I would like 1080p, but this projector seems so perfect in every other regard, I think I can deal with 720p until I can drop $2,000 in a year or two. Eventually, this projector will be downgraded to my outdoor movie projector when I can afford to get a nicer home theater...
The ceiling is angled, but at it's lowest point where the edge of the screen would be is 9'4", so I should have a little over 1' of clearance above that I don't want the width of the screen to exceed 10 ft since the room is 15' wide. That leaves me 2.5 feet of space on each side.
Seating...
That would be a 130" screen actually, and according to projector central, would be recommended for a room with ambient light, which would be good since I watch more sports in dim lighting than I do movies in dark lighting anyways.
If the coffee table is 2 feet tall, then the bottom of the screen would be 3 feet from the ground according to projector central. The offset from 7.5 feet is 12".
Thanks. I have taken a lot of measurements and I found that I could place the projector anywhere from 7 feet to 10 feet away. I think that still leaves me with 720p, but it does mean that the benq w710st is a possibility and it has a high contrast ratio of 10,000:1. It also seems to have pretty...
Weird... my last post didn't show up...
Can you explain to me why it won't work without lens shift? I trust that you are giving me solid advice, I just want to understand where you are coming from. I thought the coffee table mount would work without lens shift for the w710st.
That 8350 may not...
Ok... so I need one with lens shift. Could you tell me why? I just want to understand the reasoning. I thought the coffee table mount would negate the need for lens shift.
Looking at the 8350, that may not be out of the question. I wanted a minimum 100" screen and that one would do that from...
FWIW, part of the reason I would spend more on the projector is for nostalgia. The look of the light beam leading up to the screen is like what it was like going to the movie theater as a kid. The idea of getting a bigger TV doesn't really excite me the way the thought of watching Star Wars on a...
Ok, so is the bigger problem the lay out of the room, or that I need to be more open minded with my budget as far as a projector goes?
I get nervous with the idea of getting too high in cost, but for a projector I would push it (Maybe as high as $1100) since I want a projector more than a TV...
I am listening to your guys advice. Could someone explain to me why the room is poorly suited for a projector? I thought that turning to the larger wall, I would get some comments in support of the projector. In fact, I was thinking it was well suited for the Benq 710ST. At 7.5 feet, I could...
Those light switches will get in the way. Originally I thought I could work around it, that was why I started thinking about the screen being on an easel. I had been planning on applying keystone correction for a shelf mounted projector, but I see people advising against doing so.
I may have to...
Thanks guys for all the advice. I think I am going to bite the bullet and get a Viewsonic Pro8300. It has a wide range for the throw ratio, speakers that I can use until I can afford to get a real sound system in another month or so, and is supposed to be able to produce a bright image for...
Oh, and when I said speakers the width of the wall, I meant the front speakers separated by the width of the wall instead of sitting on the TV stand that I have now.
Thanks guys. I am no longer considering any of those projectors, but just so I can understand fully... If it is the contrast ratio that sucks about the business projectors, then is the only problem with the BenQ MX660p the resolution? The lumens are 3000, and the contrast ratio is 5000:1, so the...
I am sorry I am coming across as so ignorant... Projectors and TV's are just not really something I know a whole lot about. I am really just trying to find something better than my 32 inch TCL TV. Basically I am stuck with having to have my projector 15 feet away from a 7.5 foot wide wall and I...
FWIW, I found this projector last night and I really liked the specs on it, but it is still lower resolution than you guys are suggesting...

Isn't that what keystone adjustment is for? I was under the impression that a +- 40 degree keystone adjustment would give me the flexibility of pointing the projector at an angle.
