thanks for the response. i will mount the TV above the center speaker for the optimal sound. The TV will now be 4-5 inches higher than expected , but thats compromise I guess :( I plan to mount the TV this coming weekend and will check to see if there is any further input from members. thanks...
what makes the TV above speaker the better choice? aesthetics, sound, etc? The picture is more important than the sound and would mean a higher TV viewing angle (only 4 inches though) . thank you ohh. and what do i do about those L&R speakers to make them sound good? thanks again
Here is a photo of what I am dealing with. I am leaning toward having the better TV viewing angle possible with wall mounting TV directly above the shelf? The compromise would be a higher mounted center speaker directly to the backboard above the mounted TV. what would you guys do with this...
Hi all, its been a while since I've posted - just been busy. have a dilemna here. Wall Mounting a 55" Lcd/led on top of a mantle would be a perfect spot for viewing, but would leave the center speaker mounted above the display screen. Or I could put the center speaker perfectly flat on the...
I didnt realize about the differences in Audyssey. This has opened the door to looking at Denons more. The better version of Audyssey is an important feature since i will need all the help i can get to set it up. I had a look at the Denon 16xx series and it might be just what i am looking for...
it stinks when manufacturers take away features. the perfect receiver for me would be a hybrid of the 509 + powered zone 2 in a entry level receiver. if i spend $100 for an Audiosource amp, I might as well put that into a receiver that will give me the features i need. the 7.1 would be nice but...
HI there its me again with a newbie question. I have been looking at the Onkyo TX-NR509 since its on sale. and it has some nice features that interest me and one that doesnt Networking Ability - Cool Audessey - Cool iPhone App as a remote control - Cool Plug in iPhone directly to front of unit -...
thanks for the info. A couple of threads down show the Onkyo 509 at only $53 more and its a new one compared to $199 for a refurb 508. Does this one distort the HDMI picture quality? is this "Advanced" cable some marketing tactic or is it a good cable --> Amazon
great, my receiver will be 8 ft away from the TV. I now know what size HDMI cable to get and where to purchase. Thanks for the info and offer on the setup. C u.
The receiver I am interested in getting is this one --> http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXSR508/Onkyo-TX-SR508-7.1-Channel-3-D-Ready-Home-Theater-Receiver/1.html The speakers wil be Energy Take Classics. The Comcast Cable Box is the Hi-Def version. Currently I have a HDMI...
I will soon have my 1st ever onkyo receiver and bookshelf speakers and also a 55" Samsung or LG TV. I have researched all the equipment but not the cabling to set this up. with a little embarrasement to ask :D, do these systems use a HDMI cable from the Receiver to the TV? Or from Comcast Cable...
I chose the refurbed Onkyo based on the value since it retails at $400. The dakmart had some good prices on Denon but still at 2x the price of the refurbed TX-SR508. I couldnt find any compromable Denons that are better than the Onkyo at the same price range. I thinkthe SR-508 will be OK but...
Is it possible to mount the speakers in a corner without a stand or a platform? Or will i need to purchase something to allow the speakers to aim properly from a corner? the most inexpensve way is preferred. usually I dont have the TV loud using the builtin speakers. just average volume but i do...
I never would have thought of that. I will have to check if I can put them there because the speaker wire is already snaked through the ceiling to the rear wall then the ceiling was installed. I think I will need a Plan B just in case I cant move the cabling. In case I am unable to put them on...
The room is a 15' x 20' and seating area is about 4 feet away from the back windows. Since I dont have any wall directly behind the length of the couch, should I mount the rear speakers in the corner? or in the wall where I have 3-feet of wall? And how would I point the rear speakers in the...
thanks for the suggestions. this gave me some samples to do a little more research. The Energy Take classics are 3/4 of an inch in Height over the Ventriloquist and almost an inch over the Definitives. About the same for the polks. I guess to get into the size of Energy RC I need a larger...
I am looking for any suggestions on a speaker system where the speakers are small but sound good and be in $300-$400 range. I like the Energy Take Classic 5.1 but they were a little too large for my liking. The regular Energy RCs are $599 and a great size - but out of budget :( any suggestions...
the room will have about 6 feet between the back of the couch and the wall. does the 7.1 provide a better surrond sound experience than 5.1 for movies/sports through Comcast cable? I could give up the network feature of the NR-509 for a better sound experience with the SR508 - unless there are...
Which one would you choose and why? Onkyo TX-NR509 5.1 Network Onkyo TX-SR508 7.1 The refurbs price are only $40 difference so price isnt a factor. I guess 7.1 would be better for sports and movies and has a powered zone 2 that could be useful. The network would be cool but only 5.1 and no...
thanks for the replies. could i ask for more suggestions in the $300 range with any popular brands like Boston, Polk, Fluance, Axiom that are a good value? Those Energy Classics got good reviews and look like a quality speaker . nice suggestion gene. do i save up the extra 100 bucks if Energy's...
I started some research on speakers and came across these. Polk --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290066 Boston --> http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/details/544779013/boston-acoustics-cs2310b I might be able to get a Sub from my father so the sub isnt important...
I started some research on speakers and came across these. Polk Boston I might be able to get a Sub from my father, so the sub isnt important. Not sure how to compare. Im open to any suggestions :D
I am building a home theater setup and have decided between Onkyo receiver 508 or 609. What would be a good speaker setup where the fronts can sit on a bookshelf and the rears wall mounted? I prefer the front speakers to be small if possible. Budget is $300 but could go to $400 if it was worth...
i think this is tough price point like Gene said. I have a post in this section from a few days ago and currently looking at making my own system vs. a HTib around the $600-$650 range myself. Refurbs and used are OK since I plan to use only a few hours a week. I at least have a chosen receiver...
I am trying to compare the SR-508 vs. NR-509 and one of the requirements for the NR-509 is it requires an Amplifier to run Zone2 speakers. What happens if you hook up speakers without buying the amp?
thanks AI for the info. I have learned a lot and with this information I want to go for the Sound Quality - especially when watching HD through my Comcast box like a Football or Baseball game and watching movies in surround sound - this is my end goal. The help I got here over the past days has...
