LOL. Yeah it ended up being quite a change. I kept the UD7007 because they didn't have the 3313 in stock. Would it give a significant upgrade using the denon link? The 7007 seems like a really nice unit. Thanks
Well, decided to exchange the sr5008 and instead brought home a 4520ci. Best i can tell this is about as close as i could get to 8801/8077 separates while staying with single unit simplicity. So far I'm loving it. Seems to be just as warm to neutral in sound but much more clean and dynamic than...
Okay, thanks. I'll stick with 12 awg but may use the higher strand count for the theater wiring and the lower count ethereal wire for my multi speaker zone stuff as it will be less demanding with only small monitor speakers spread around the inside and outside of the house.
Makes sense. Thanks...
I will have a few runs for surround and rear surround that would be 40 to 59 feet. Front highs will probably be 20 feet. Front L/C/R will not be through wall so can be pre-made cables or changed easily. Are you saying to use coax for actual high level speaker wire?
Okay, clearly I need to do more reading and google because that all went right over my hear. LOL. I'm not sure if you are saying more strands is better or worse.Edit: Just read the wiki link on eddy and if I'm understanding correctly the higher strand count is better as it provides more...
I picked up 200' of this 12 ga Ethereal CL3R in wall wire as the pricing seemed pretty good. Probably around 65 strands.http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ETH122CT/ETHEREAL-12-2C-T-12/2-High-Strand-2-Conductor-Speaker-Wire-100ft/1.htmlHowever while shopping for some other cables...
Awesome. :). I think it makes the most sense as well. That way I can enjoy now and work through an upgrade path as well. Also, the 5008 could be re-tasked to another duty if I get to the separates point, so it's not a loss.
Well, decided on a totally different approach. For now I'm keeping the Marantz 5008 to use as receiver as I've decided I ultimately want to gravitate towards separates with a nice amp. Looking for better main speakers to pair with the Deftech's and will roll some of the promonitor 800 speakers...
Since deciding I wanted a more featured unit than the 5008 I've been doing more and more reading and a refurb Yamaha 3030 and refurb Marantz 7008 have hit the radar screen. I ruled out the Denon 4520 and a few others for price as I can get the 7008 and 3030 for nearly identical pricing.I...
Decided to enter an RMA request on the Marantz SR5008. Not sure which of the upgrade units I'm going with yet but think I've narrowed it down to one of these but still having a hard time choosing. I don't live in a city that I can hear these either. Yamaha 2020Denon 4311ci
My room is a large open area that includes kitchen, dining and living in one long row. The living area is only about 12.5 x 16 though with the TV inset into an alcove on one side that is about 3 feet deep. The sofa sits opposite on one of the 16 foot sides. Wall material is drywall, floors are...
From reading I got the idea it did that virtually though. At least on the front end anyway. With the yammy could I used surrounds beside the couch and the rear surrounds overhead and get the sound right? Or would I be better off sticking to 5.2 and use the extras as a zone 2 somewhere else?
I just can't stop thinking about the Yamaha 1030. Rats.................From everything I'm reading and from my prior experience being yamaha I'm sort of wishing I'd have gone with the 1030 instead. Looks like the 1030 is more comparable to the 6008 marantz spec wise. The only thing I'm not...
Realistically, a 5.1 with front height speakers will probably be more than enough for my room with the Marantz sr5008. If I really feel a need to add more I could look at adding a second matching subwoofer. Thanks for all the help. This stuff sure has changed since I last looked into it. It...
Thanks.I'm still questioning my decision. LOLWhy would the Yamaha 1030 weigh so much more than the marantz units? 1030 = 33 lbs and the marantz units weigh 22 to 27 lbs for 5008 through 7008 respectively. Also, how does the 1030 handle the front height speakers?
Not at this time. Will be plugging an Apple TV, comcast HD box, sony blue ray and video game system into it. I went ahead and returned the sony strdn1040 and ordered the refurbished Marantz SR5008. It doesn't have quite as many features but it looks like it has the ones I need and if what I'm...
I'm thinking the marantz 5008 looks like a good option for me. My wall space wouldn't allow for front wide due to door alignment, so I'm bound to front height and 5.1 setup it looks. I don't plan to have a second location for another tv or zone, so the single HDMI out should be fine I guess...
It would give you the option to utilize a different processor or to utilize the unit for just the amps. Not sure it is really something to worry with but is just a thought with regards to future proofing it a little. The marantz 5008 unit seems to include both and does include the front height...
Yes couch is against the wall. Only way furniture fits due to layout of room. I guess what I'm really looking at would be 5.1 plus front height.I picked up the sony str-dn1040 based on reading some quick reviews rating it well for the $500 price. The only reason I second guessed it was the lack...
I'm finally updating from a roughly 15 year old Yamaha RX-V795A 5.1 receiver with Definitive Technology ProMonitor80 speaker set. The main reason for the upgrade is to get more modern connections and features like HDMI. The old system has been relocated to my garage shop for music.I have...
I'm wanting to spend as little as possible to get as much as possible. ;) I bought this receiver new back in the late 90's I think. It's a 5.1 yammy and has served my needs just fine all these years. The only real reason I'm wanting to upgrade is to have integrated hdmi and decent...
