American Life Network showing some TV Movies.

American Life Network, formerly American Life TV, is occasionally showing 1970s and 1980s TV movie on Saturday and Sunday Nights. Last night they showed the low-budget "Murder on Flight 502 (1975)". Robert Stack played the pilot and Farah Fawcett played a stewardess. Sonny Bono, Molly Pican were...

Circuit City closing all stores -- watch for bargains coming soon

I received an email today from "CircuitCity.com" informing me that they are being "relaunched" as a Systemax Company with "World Class Service, 24/7". I wonder how long this will last. No mention of re-opening any retail locations. The new CircuitCity.com

It seems to have fallen through the cracks. I don't know what it's 1968 box office was like or what kind of reviews it received. Into the late 1970s it was broadcast occasionally on local TV stations in NYC. It might have been perceived as being too much of a "New York" movie. AFAIK it was never...

    Warner Archive Discussion Thread (FEEDBACK)

Bye Bye Braverman might never have been released as a catalog $9.99 pressed DVD because it is an obscure title. So it's better off in the Archives, quality issues aside, than never being released at all. There are a few movies in the Archive I'd like to see, like Braverman, but none I'd buy. I...

    Warner Archive Discussion Thread (FEEDBACK)

Releasing an offbeat movie like Bye Bye Braverman through the Archive makes sense, but I wonder if a video master of it even exists. AFAIK it's never been on TCM or broadcast anywhere for years. But why is a great serious film like Pride of the Marines being released through the Archives? I'm...

But all the coupon codes and promos just confuse the pricing issue. A clear cut lower msrp with a permanent B2G1 pricing makes more sense than the current discount codes. Examples: msrp - buy 2 get 1 price $19.99 - $13.33 $18.99 - $12.66 $17.99 - $11.99 $16.99 - $11.33...

    Warner Archive Discussion Thread (FEEDBACK)

I don't think there is a "tipping point". The problem seems to be more with their website and internet operations. You'd think Warner would have a top-notch IT operation but a lot of lagre companies farm this stuff out for a lot of reasons.

    Warner Archive Discussion Thread (FEEDBACK)

The buy 2 get 1 free deal works out to $13.33 per DVD, which is a smart move on Warner's part despite the early hype about how Archive titles were selling well at $20 each. Now if Warner would lower the "MSRP" to $14.99, that same buy 2 get 1 free deal works out to a very attractive an more...

    Warner Archive Discussion Thread (FEEDBACK)

In the simplest terms it looks like Warner just didin't think this out too well. From the picture quality issues down to the confusion over how the "discount" is processed, there's just an aura of confusion around the Archive. What's surprising is that Warner would risk alienating it's biggest...

Circuit City closing all stores -- watch for bargains coming soon

Systemax re-opened the CompUSA as a "CompUSA" or under a new name? I don't see any CCity stores re-opening under the CCity name. It was dragged through the gutter over the last year, especially during the liquidation-from-hell.

From what I've read here (and in the other thread) regarding the generally disappointing quality of the DVDs they should be $8.99, 3 for $25, 5 for $40, 10 for $75, 10+ for $7.25 per DVD. And Mr T., how can you ever watch 4,500 DVDs? at 2 per day it would still take you over 6 years to watch...

A few thoughts about...THE WARNER CHAT [Everyone on this forum should read this!]

Pre-submitting wanted titles is one solution, but we have to understand that WHV won't be able to answer every inquiry about every film. That's just the nature of the limited time available on a chat. The advantage of "pre-submitting" is that the folks at Warner would be able to give accurate...

You're correct about the pricing, especially after reading the numerous comments regarding the disappointing quality of many of the DVDs. For around $20 or less you can buy the restored 2-DVD "Citizen Kane". So why should anyone pay $20 for an inferior product, even if it's for a movie you...

Best version of The Red House? (1947, Edward G. Robinson)

The Acme DVD release is not great but it is watchable (Catalog# 5011, UPC# 089859501128). I had a VHS version which was unwatchable and had a faulty Hi-Fi soundtrack. Circuit City closing all stores -- watch for bargains coming soon

The maximum square footage allowed by New York City zoning for a retail space is 100,000 square feet. But, of course, there are weird exceptions like for a "hardware" store. So Home Depot can build larger locations but everybody else including supermarkets are limited to 100,000 square feet...

Circuit City closing all stores -- watch for bargains coming soon

The Circuit City location on Staten Island is in a less than 10 years old shopping center in which CCity and Staples are the anchors, each about the same size. CCity had the better location as it was visible from heavily traveled Richmond Avenue. So you could say it was the "main anchor"...

What was your very first DVD?

The first DVDs I purchased were "The Godfather Trilogy" and "Citizen Kane", both at Costco. I bought them about a week before I bought my first DVD player, a Panasonic RV31K for the "cheap" price of $170 at Best Buy. This was back in November, 2001.

Circuit City closing all stores -- watch for bargains coming soon

Best Buy was always better run than Circuit City. CCity would advertise DVDs in their Sunday flier and by Monday they'd be sold out. BBuy at least stocked enough to last the week in most cases. Little like that add up after a while in consumers' minds. CCity shot itself in the foot when it...

I remember Divx. IIRC the Divx player had to be hooked up to a phone line. After they shut Divx down were the Divx discs playable or did they become coasterware? Besides CCity what other retailers sold Divx? You had to be a total sucker to fall for Divx.

What causes parts of the pic on some DVDs to move around?

I noticed the same thing on the Saturday Night Live Season-1 DVDs. I called it "smearing". I believe it's caused by putting too much info on to a DVD (to save money I'm sure). Someone with technical expertise can explain it better than me but I think it has something to do with the "bit rate" of...

    Magnificent Ambersons

Thanks for posting the link. There was also an item on a European Marx Brothers fan site a few months back about a supposed find of some lost Night at The Opera footage. Magnificent Ambersons

Maybe not that intriguing after all. If what we are all speculating about is true, it would be very hard to keep that kind of info out of the press. Nothing is impossible but finding the lost Ambersons footage 66 years later is pretty close to it. (I know about the recent Metropolis find but...
