    DIY CAT 5 cable

well I asume what you want is to know if there is a difference between crimping a male, or a female (the wall outlet) diy cat cable? I have no personal experience but i found a few pics, it looks simple enough, the female adapters are laid out in a simple and very seperated format, I would...

they arent huge differences, they all create 5.1 from a stereo signal what i discovered, is that the prologic music has more treble in it and comes primarily from the front speakers movies has a deeper bass than music but less highs, the sound more often flows to the back speakers (probably a...

Hello, I have a very basic question, I was looking for a DVR player and came across the tivo dvrs, they are quite cheap(off ebay) compared to standalone dvr, so my real question is, can I use the dvr feature of the tivo, without getting a subscription?? I understand I won't get the tivo...

    Flush mounting a big screen

well this is how I see it, somewhat simple. basically you go out and get a regular wall mount, maybe telescoping might help( but likely not) in any event go get some more wood and make supports to screw the wall mount into, then you can use the telescoping part, to adjust the tv so its flush...

Questions on Video connections to Plasma TV

from what i read it sounds like you left out the vcr most dvd players do have inputs on them, so if you want you can plug the vcr into the dvd player and then take that from the tv but it sounds like your good now

    Who should do the switching?

I don't mean to start trouble, but on my tv the outputs will take out sound from any inputs on the tv or the tv tuner. Perhaps it varies from model to model, try yours if you can, but if this is the case i say do the switching on the tv, that way whatever source you are watching will...

    The case against HTiB

over air hd, how do you tell?

well see, where i live, all the vhf are offered in sd and hd (and those are my main goals), but the difference is like channel 7 sd and 7.1 hd(thats what i meant by the show the same thing at the same time, even according to the tv guide). so technically they are on different channels so to...

HDTV volume low / cable won

Well if you are using hdmi to connect the cable to your tv why not try and take an optical out of the tv (since the sound is in the hdmi as well)and then into your reciever, hat way you can also use the tv control to help amp up the signal a bit. well that will only work if your tv has an...

Hi! newbie seeks wisdom his current system

I just checked the website and I got the same idea you did, perhaps there is a mode or button you must press to enable the upconversion, so search that manual but then I also read: "Component video conversion also preserves the highest possible picture quality for each source." so perhaps, as...

    720p/1080i compnent dvd?

ok just a spin-off question now, but if regular dvds are encoded with 480lines of resolution what is the point of the upscaling provided from hdmi/dvi cables? i mean the picture isn't really going to get any better than the 480 right becuase the player only 'guestimating' at how to provide more...

    720p/1080i compnent dvd?

Thankyou for the advicer but my real problem is my tv is 720p/1080i but lo an behold, had no hdmi or dvi inputs! Yes quite ridiculous indeed. But I still have it becuase it is only for a smaller room and was inexpensive(now I know why). That is why I was so interested in the prospect of a dvd...

    HDMI switching - problems

If you have to use an optical(I'd use that over coaxial anyday if you have the option) and I assume you do, couldn't you just run both the cable and dvd into the tv(if you have enough inputs) and then use the digital audio out from the tv into your reciever. That seems like the easiest solution...

    tear on screen

I too would say return it if it came torn. But if not check the warranty, if you got the standard warranty there is a good chance it doesnt actually cover screen repairs. I know screen repairs on a tv?!? who would have guessed.

    720p/1080i compnent dvd?

Hello, I was reading descriptions for tv's and noticed some(including mine) say that they can accept a 720p/1080i through the component inputs. So I started looking at dvd players, can anyone name a dvd player that is capable of putting out such high-quality video through component cables...
