$2000-2250 for a new home theater

It's done! Chairs are here, tv's here, speakers are here, subwoofer is here, receiver is here, dvd player is here.. it's all here! Everything sounds fantastic and I'm loving every second of it (granted I just finished, it's 10:30, and I have football practice early tomorrow so I could only watch...

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

Nah I went with the Panasonic SA-XR55S and the STF-3 subwoofer with 170's as the mains and surrounds and the 340 as the center.

    MX-850/MRF-300 help needed

We just bought an MX-850 and MRF-300 from ebay ($325 w/ shipping). It all seems to be in new and unopened condition (so please don't bash me for going ebay :) ). Now, I realize that this remote is overkill for what I need, but the price was so cheap I had to get it. Ok so first question: I...

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

Ok everything's in! I gave the speakers/receiver a whirl yesterday using the DTS demo disc and it all sounded great initially. The subwoofer is extremely strong.. my sister could feel it two floors up in her room :) and it's not boomy at all. Any suggestions for where the crossover should be...

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

I think saving $30 and getting them from a reputable vendor like buy.com is a pretty good deal. I'm already buying the receiver from a separate vendor and the speakers are on backorder so the extra wait (if there is one) wouldn't be a real problem. Oh and I might get a pair of mounts for the...

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

Couple updates.. The speakers still haven't shipped out :/ Though it's been 3 days and they said 5-7, I'm just anxious heh. I talked to my guy and he's sending me the Hsu subwoofer demo disc. I don't know how good it is but it's something, and it's free! I asked about wall mounts, and he...

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

Thank YOU for the help Eddie, I would've been stuck with a $2000 Polk set if it wasn't for you heh. I probably won't be able to do that for a little while because in a few days I'll have bought and returned about 10k worth of stuff from CC (was testin out tvs ;) ) but I might try that sometime...

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

Nevermind the DTS disc. I was wrong, I didn't use the HD850 I used an older samsung and that one doesn't have DTS. On the computer, I downloaded the cole2k codec and now the sound works :) Sorry for the mixup there, it's all good now:D

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

I have a Samsung HD850. I'm pretty sure it can use the DTS audio format. And I'm even more sure that my computer should be able to use it. Could the DVD be messed up?

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

Ok after we realized that the rear speakers were too large to mount, and since this was apparantly a bad deal anyway, we are going to return it. We are going to go with the Ascend set you mentioned, except with the STF-3 subwoofer. A few of the speakers are on backorder right now so we're going...

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

One other thing. Is there a noticable difference between different 'quality' optical cables? One cable is $30 more expensive than the other. It is supposedly 'extreme' or something. Is this just a marketing gimmick? What exactly is the difference between these?

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

I ended up getting a $2000 package at Circuit City: 2 Polk Monitor70BK (floor-standing mains), 2 Polk Monitor40BK (rears), 1 Polk CS1BK (center), 1 Polk PSW12BK (sub), and an Onkyo TXSR702. Add 100 ft of audio cable (probably returning), an HDMI cable, an optical cable, and a coke, and it came...

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

Ok now I have two different opinions on this lol. About the HDMI.. I thought I had to send the HDMI through the receiver because it transmits sound too. But if I can use HDMI for the tv (for video) and coaxial or optical for sound in the receiver, I'll just do that. Then I can get a receiver...

$2000-2250 for a new home theater

We are in the final steps of redoing our basement to create a home theater. So far, we have the TV, a Samsung HL-R6168W (61" DLP), the DVD player, a Samsung DVD-HD850, a hi-def comcast cable DVR and hi-def DirecTV (for NFL Sunday Ticket). The main seats (when they eventually come) are 6 (2 rows...
