I'm curious about this comment. Upon what information do you base your assertion? Is this something you've heard from Sirius? If this is something Sirius has stated, it sounds like a silly way to spend $500 million. Just wondering where you're getting these facts. Thanks.
This brings up something I'm unclear about... I do understand that there is no discrete 7.1 software, as yet. I read in another thread that a 7.1 amp takes the 6.1 formatted software, and plays the rear center material on two speakers, and the left and right surrounds on one speaker each...
Not that I'm the best guy to ask, but if I had it all to do over again, I'd invest that $1200 into Front Mains and a Sub, and if I have enough left over, a center. Wait for the surrounds. I think it's better to build over time, when you have the money for the equipment you want, rather than...
I find myself using the Neo:6 setting most often, though my AVR will detect a DTS or DD signal, and automatically make the switch for me. If I had the option of DPLIIx, I do believe I'd use that. That rear center speaker adds a bit of immersion to most programming on cable. mt
Jeez...$199 after rebate!? Sounds WAY too good to be true. I suppose I'd be fooling myself to think that I'd get true HD, or even anything close to it, but it appears as though this thing may be worth investigating, don't you think? Great stuff, Jeremy. Thanks! mt
Right. You can't *really* improve upon the source, can you? The "D.I.S.T." scaler built in to my plasma does not do a good job with either my analog channels, or my digital channels. The HD channels from my provider look spectacular...to me, anyways. Anything else...not so great. Almost...
The Dec/Jan 2005 Issue of Curtco's Digital TV magazine offers a pretty good review and recommendation of the ADS Tech HDTV Upconverter. Does anyone have real world experience with this scaler? It's only $599, and seems almost too good to be true. If this little device truly upconverts all...
........I'm so confused. But I do believe that I've made up my mind on which sub to purchase. I'm going with the 20-39PC-Plus 871.34, shipped. I feel good about the fact that I can return it, should the need arise. Thanks to all for your input. marty
This is an intriguing conversation, one that is bringing up lots of questions for me. I appreciate that you guys aren't making me feel silly for not knowing a lot about the matter. At this point, I think I'd like to go with a cylinder style sub, because I like the small footprint, and to be...
Hear, hear. Philosophical and semantic arguments aside, all I have to go on is the personal opinions of the users in this and other forums. As stated in my original post, I don't want to bother with shipping 60-100 lb. devices back and forth. My goal is to take what you good people have to say...
This is exactly the type of feedback I'd hoped to hear. Thanks for putting aside the references to your other tools, and multi-orgasmic mates. ;) I'm in the SF Bay Area, if anyone is willing to allow me an audition. I really liked the suggestion about the maple finish, as my KEF's are just...
I've been reading these thread with much amusement. It seems kinda like some of the music forums I belong to where guys argue over who is the better guitar player. It's an argument that just can't be won, it seems. I'm grateful that we live in a time when we have affordable options like these...
We in the San Francisco Bay Area have just gotten the good news...Comcast has added KTVU in HD, just in time for Super Bowl! Even those of us in the non-rebuilt areas (Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo) are getting this addition!!!! I'm happy. mt
One problem that I experience with Sirius is the need to move my indoor antenna to keep up with the satellite movements. The windows in my apartment face South and West, rather than the North or East that they suggest for people in this region (San Francisco Bay Area). I've contacted Sirius...
Well, I can't argue with that. Let us hope that both of these companies flourish, and are forced to keep improving programming, and keep prices reasonable through competition. That is what would be best for us, don't you think? What is your "breaking point", as far as monthly costs are...
"Too many Stern haters on this board!! I would pay $25 a month to hear Stern 4 days a week and a best of on Fridays! I think he is hysterical! And I can't wait to hear him on Sirius!" I couldn't agree more, Michael. People can hate Howard all they want. They always have, and look at him...
We Howard fans are loyal. Will 'the majority' of fans migrate to a pay service to hear him? Probably not. However, even if only 40% of us make the trip, Sirius wins. I don't think that this innovation and the exodus from terrestrial radio is about morality. At least not directly. It's no...
I'm running a Yamaha HTR-5660 6.1 receiver, with Mirage Omnisats for my 3 rear speakers. If I'm following this thread correctly, I'm hearing that I can add a second rear-center Omnisat, and that would, in effect, give me 7.1 sound? I've realized that there are no true 7.1 recordings. So are...
Hi Michael, I purchased one of these for my son this past Xmas. Personally, I was impressed with the playback on an SD TV. I've not yet plugged this in to my JVC Plasma, and that'd be the real test, but as far as normal playback is concerned, I found it to be nearly broadcast quality, with a...
I appreciate the response, Ron. I am into music a great deal. Aside from a personal passion as a listener, I'm also a player. I've played guitar for over 25 years. The type of music I really dig doesn't show up much on Sirius, unless it's the Planet Jazz channel, and only sporadically there...
I've been with Sirius for about 3 months now, and I really like it. I've not heard XM, but those that I've talked to who do subscribe to XM say similar things about the music programming. They seem pleased with the variety and content. I have to say that the reason I chose Sirius over XM is...
JamesMAD said: "You make a valid point. Voom is the best as far as the amount and variety of hdtv channels. It is also a newly launched satellite; which means better technology and signal reliability. The only problem is it's going to be more expensive especially if you don't want to sign a 6-12...
