    TV over fireplace

What is it with builders nowadays always putting the fireplace in the room most likely to be used as a tv room or HT?? And then they have to locate in an area that leaves no other area available for a/v equip. I think a fireplace would be more suited to the dining room, den, or master...

    TV over fireplace

I think it's a little high, but probably not enough to cause a fued between husband/wife. All wives want tv's above fireplaces, my opinion is thats the worst place for one, but sometimes we just have to give in to they're demands..........better to have a high mounted tv than to sleep on the...

    What country?

My #1 choice would be japan........i lived there for 3 years and they were the best 3 years of my life. #2 would be Denmark, because even guys like me who are missing teeth can still get laid.

How do you determine which dvds don't have previews?

Is there a way to tell if a dvd in a store has unwanted advertisments and previews? I recently bought 2 from wal-mart and they have 10 min of previews that my dvd player will not let me skip over, or fast forward through. Maybe the $10 price tag should have been a dead giveaway??

Can you explain the speaker spec: "89db" to me?

Also, i think the higher the sensitivity is, the more "crisp" it sounds at low to medium level. Since the voice coil (or whatever component) reacts earlier to input. Most commercial grade speakers are 95+, but they sometimes have to run 24/7 without clipping the amp. .02c

    a/v preamp or receiver recommendation?

Right now i have an adcom gtp-750 with an adcom gfa-7500. The 750 (preamp) doesn't have half the functions of most recievers, and if i did it again, i would get a reciever and use the preouts to the gfa7500. I just like the idea of having a seperate amp in it's own case, usally get higher...

Can you explain the speaker spec: "89db" to me?

Good explanation......it does effect sound quality to a certain extent.........if you have a spkr that has a sensitivity of 50db, and another one rated at 100db being driven off the same amp, the 100db spkr will sound better because it's not working the amp as much to produce the same levels...

    Why not Definitive Technology?

When i was looking for my first subwoofer in 2001, i went to the local "hi-fi" shop and told them i "wanted to hear all the they had and i don't want to know what each one is". After listening to several, i ended up going home with the one i liked best. It was a def tec Prosub80, and priced...

    Speaker Placement and Height

You can mount the center behind the screen, but you have to purchase a special screen. Not sure if this is true with all screen mfr's, but there are some.

info on how "tone generators" work

As a back-up plan i would measure each location before the drywall is in place and draw up a plan. This allows you to measure for the hole later, and not rely completly on the tone generator (which can transfer the tone to several wires if the wires are bunched together in the walls somewhere)...
