This thread created a lively discussion, so glad to see!
Reading through the comments it becomes quite clear that even mid level HT is a pretty niche market. I always figured there were lots and lots of people out there who had some semblance of a HT but that seems like wishful thinking at...
I recently walked into my local Best Buy (Victoria, Canada) and noticed a few things:
Basically no AV amplifiers for sale, there might have been 3 Onkyo for sale but nthing else
No Home Theater Room - pretty much completely dismantled, no TV, Amps to try, speakers etc.
No movies to buy except...
Just picked this up. Does the extra 14 minutes make it better? I have not heard a lot of positive things about this. One poster said it was better than Lost World which is not exactly high praise...
Maybe, if someone here is in the industry, the studios could create some sort of single disk or download situation where 3d enthusiasts such as ourlseves, could buy a download of the 3d version. I assume, if a title was released in 3d, then there is a digital 3d file. Is that same file not...
Nice to see people are still keeping the 3d dream alive! I had the pleasure of watching Beauty and the Beast (cartoon version) in 3d last night and it was truly a joyful experience. I found the 3d to be a bit choppy but overall the experience was magical and added a real level of depth to the...
As an outside observer of the 4K world who is waiting until 4K projectors start getting down into my price range, I am curious if every UHD disc gets the Dolby Atmos DTS:X treatment? And if so, are these soundtracks all remastered from the original mono (I am assuming a lot of films on this...
Hi,
I own a Yamaha RxV1083. Terrific Receiver.
I am mystified by one thing though. How do I know if I am receiving an ATMOS signal? Back in the old days a little icon would light up on my receiver to tell me it was receiving DTS or Dolby Digital 5.1 etc..
I run the majority of my home...
I am in Canada where it is $75 and not actually sold at Walmart. In fact, I don't think Walmart here has any 3d movies anymore or many movies at all. I was in Best Buy today and they have 1 small aisle of movies consisting of mostly Marvel titles and new releases. Slim pickings to say the...
Thanks for the input. I cannot imagine making the first Hobbit longer could somehow miraculously save it. I only saw it once theatrically and someone gave me a copy of it on blu ray that I don't recall ever watching again. I did however truly enjoy 2 and 3. My thoughts at the time were The...
Hi, Jumping in on the Hobbit discussion - are the extended versions really that good or different? I found the Hobbit Pt 1 tediously long in the Theater but loved the other two films and own them both on 3d blu ray. I would consider blind purchasing the extended 3d on recommendations from the...
If anyone has a region free player and is interested in a Copy of T2 in 3d (my bad, didn't check the region coding and won't play in my player or my xbox one), drop me a PM and we can arrange something.
OK, good to see there are still some advertising in the US. My point is that physical media has basically died here at least from an advertising enticement to get you into the store scenario. There is still a small (and getting smaller all the time) section for Physical media but it is...
Reviewing my local BB and Wal-mart Black Friday flyer i was shocked to see absolutely no ads for Bluray titles (DVD, UHD etc too), not one.
I live in western Canada and I remember even last year there was at least a page of deals but this weeks flyer, NOTHING.
Are other areas seeing this as...
So there are 3d version of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith that remain unreleased in 3d? Man that sucks. I saw Phantom Menace 3d theaterically and really enjoyed it. Not one of those people that hate the prequels so I can enjoy them!
I really would love it if Disney would put...
Maybe this will be the next big thing in home theater. You very own IMAX certified screening room. It would certainly gives us all something new to strive for.
I miss the (my) good ol days when I had the time to sit down and watch a 3+ hour film at a decent hour so I wouldn't fall asleep! Have to wait until my kids are older (and even then, they are girls so I am not sure how much they would love this film) before I can truly enjoy this film again...
I wonder if this explains why I absolutely loved my Reference 100 v2s that I purchased in 2000 but was disappointed with the V5's of the same speaker which I picked up in around 2010. Still great speakers but they have never impressed me the way those v2's did.
How was the color in the 3d version? The colours were super vibrant when I saw it in imax 3d but i find my home theater 3d to be a bit darker (probably the glasses) so I am wondering how bright the home version of Aquaman 3d is. Thanks!
Hi,
Recently purchased an older M&K sub for my home theater. Has worked flawless until recently when it has developed a thump, like a heart beat.
IT comes and goes. I haven't done a lot of experimenting but I have the following facts:
1) when I unplug the RCA connect to the sub, noise goes...
Saw Aquaman in IMAX 3d last night. What an amazing experience. I won't speak to the quality of the film (i liked it but can see why some might not) but the 3d and the CGI were incredibly immersive. I sincerely hope they bring that out in 3D Blu Ray. I know the colours probably won't pop as...
I don't find I fall asleep during Theatrical viewing of 3d content (other than going to the late opening night showing after a long day at work but I attribute that to fatigue and find a coke zero mitigates the problem but keeps me awake until 3 am. Wife loves that!!).
So no, it doesn't seem...
Hello,
Off topic but also on...
I have a 3d set up with an xbox one as my 3d player and a Benq w1070 projector and glasses that I picked up from Ebay (Sansonic or something).
Love the set up, love the effect, BUT I find that it puts me to sleep. I get about an hour or so I am off in La La...
