Hi, Saurav. After a bunch of us left AA, we formed another board, www.audioannex.com. Unlike HTF or AA, AAx is not an informational forum; it's more of an audio-driven conversational board geared to having fun with the hobby rather than answering questions or suggesting purchasing option. I'm...
You've just pointed to one of the main reasons as to why quite a few of us left Audio Asylum's vinyl board a few years ago, even though most us were there from the beginning. Not only is it terribly silly to recommend a product you've never heard, but basing that recommendation on construction...
Normally I'd ask for the basis of such an opinion, but I think we've already been there. Regardless, there are times when a having a non-suspended turntable is an advantage. For example, when addressing the common problem of a 'table's sensitivity to footfalls on sprung floors, one can easily...
Clearly, you're not able to list any of these imaginary products, just as it's obvious that your orientation in the world of analog severely lacks any degree of precision. You don't have to respond to any of my question, as it's self-evident that you truly don't know what you're talking about. I...
Thanks for the kind words. I bought most of the parts at our local version of Home Depot, PE, and a local electrical distributor. The plugs and the Schurter IEC's run about $10 a pop and the Marinco IEC is almost twice as expensive. The very thick cord is indeed 12awg. It's a braid...
Actually, good analog gear and clean, non-abused LP's make those factors largely non-issues. Of course, there will always be some surface noise, but its presence is minimal with properly chosen and setup equipment. Hell, I haven't been exposed to audible wow since I had a Thorens in the mid '80...
I finally got sick of having too many power cords that were all too long for both of my systems, so I made some to size. I also figured that I might as well make them look kinda cool while I was at it. I used various 12awg wiring, and Pass&Seymour AC receptacles and Schurter IEC's. The black...
I know the piece well and its phono stage is, indeed, very good. IME, you'd have to upgrade to an EAR834P and the like to significantly better its performance. Felix
I'm sorry, but that is absolutely ridiculous. For whatever reason, the comments above seem to resemble a political agenda and that does very little to help attain a higher quality sonic presentation. And, isn't that what we're all after? Felix
Having setup turntables for a living and having worked on more 'tables than I could possibly list in a post, I can tell you that the SL-1200 is not in the same league as a high-quality turntable that's designed for superior sonics. I also don't know which "audiophile turntable manufacturers...
While second-hand 'tables can certainly offer a very good value, I'm afraid that the odds are miniscule of used record stores and pawn shops offering the kind of product that the original poster has in mind. Some high-end shops do sometimes have nice, used TT's for sale; however, given the need...
As I proud owner of as Kuzma Stabi/ Stogi Reference/ Transfiguration Spirit/ Ayre K-1, it's nice to see folks taking advantage of their vinyl collections. You may want to consider a VPI HW-19jr 'table and a Rega RB300 tonearm combo. You'd still have to physically move the belt in order to change...
It is fun! In the old days of Usenet, hunting sockpuppets was half the joy of participating. Having done my share of it, I can only wonder why a forum-savvy admin would ignore the easy to spot posting patterns that typically raise a red flag. I just finished reading a thread on AVS where a...
I think you may mean a given poster's IP address, which would indeed help to cut down on the sockpuppetry so often seen of discussion forums. There's one problem with doing it, though, at it revolves around privacy issues. There are several documented instances of folks contacting an...
Actually, the outputs are paralleled internally, not bridged. Not to sound argumentative, but why can't a sub be bi-wired with a mono amp? I can easily bridge my amp and bi-wire my sub with a dedicated set of cables to each 18" driver. I prefer to run each driver on its own channel, but that's...
Don't worry too much about it, Cam. Without getting into longwinded explanations, bi-wire refers to running a set of speaker cables to each set of binding posts, after removing the jumper that connects them of course, terminating at the amp's output. Passive bi-amping refers to using a separate...
Correct. BTW, what amp is it? Edit: I forgot to mention that your JBL's have dual binding posts in case the user prefers to bi-wire or passively bi-amp the speakers. If the binding posts are fitted with plugs, and that's what's preventing you from using bananas, they can usually be removed...
I have a XR25 that I use in my HT. I have auditioned it in my main system (Kuzma Stabi/ Kuzma Stogi Reference /Transfiguration Spirit /Ayre K-1/ Aragon 8008BB/ Dunlavy SC-V) and it certainly didn't help to get the best sound out of the rig. While it didn't sound bad at all, it had some definite...
I'm not Wayne, but since I directed you toward the cheater plug solution, perhaps I can give you some other options, too. Please keep in mind that your BFD was humming, because it was grounded "twice," if you will - once through its 3-prong plug and once through the interconnect. The odds are...
It configures the span of the adjustment on either side of a chosen frequency. If you do some simple searches and read-up on the subject, then experiment with adjusting the setting yourself while noting the results, you should have a handle on it in no time at all. Felix
I found that when I setup the EQ with 1/6 octave tones and achieved +/- 2dB results, and then measured the sub's FR in 1Hz intervals, there were quite a few peaks and valleys that weren't being addressed by the corrections. Even though it takes quite a bit longer to setup a curve for 1Hz...
Cam, not knowing where you have the sub's x-over set, it's difficult to say how high you should run the sweep. To be on the safe side, I'd probably run it up to 100Hz. In terms of interpreting the data, I suggest the same thing as I did earlier in the thread. You may want to read-up on the...
Cam, you may want to download some tones in 1 Hz or 2Hz (max) increments, burn them to a CD, and run the sweep to get a better picture of what's going on. Felix
You're getting a ground loop. Put a cheater plug on the BFD. A cheater plug coverts a 3-prong power cord into a 2-prong. You can get one at Home Depot, etc.
