On my Tosh 57HX93 I typically have my contrast set around 20. When playing Xbox I set brightness from 65 to 85, depending on ambient light. It works quite well this way.
I've not looked into it yet, but I plan on checking into this in a couple of weeks. I have a 57HX93 with the white banding. My TV was built in Sept 03. Tosh owners; let's keep this thread alive to help get the word out. Toshiba America can't ignore everyone.
Looks like ONECALL is getting ready to sell the new JVC RPTVs: JVC 52" D-ILA RPTV I'm surprised no one here is talking about this TV. Their FP D-ILAs hav a very nice review on preojector central. Does anyone know preliminary stats for this TV?
Football looks AWESOME on the XBR. I got kudos at my superbowl party. I don't remember seeing any motion blur whatsoever. This TV's big weakness is movies, which usually have a lot of dark scenes. Regular sitcoms and Sports are its strong suit.
Of your two choices, I'd pick the LCD RPTV. I personally think Plasas are nice if you don't have space for a bigger TV, otherwise the cost/benefit just isn't there. I was in the same boat a few months ago and decided on the Toshiba 57HX93 CRT RPTV. It was $2300. I play X-Box all the time and...
Tell your bro to return the tv. Between using problem ridden LCOS technology and having a color wheel it's going to give him years of dissatisfaction. A Sony/Hitachi LCD or Samsung DLP would serve him much better.
Here's a possible cheap fix. Use duct-tape to attach some kind of heavy object to the back of your tv. That'll change it's resonant frequency downward, hopefully so low that it's not audible anymore. Heavy object means something that weighs 8 to 32 ounces and won't rattle against the tv...
Dan, This will make you feel better. 788p is actually more information than 1080i. If you look at a CRT television, they support 1080i or 540p. They won't do 720p or 788p. I bought the Toshiba 57HX93. It's not perfect, but it's just as good as the Sony XBR, just in different ways. It's a...
www.projectorcentral.com Look at the NEC HT1100 and Infocus 5700/7200 and the Sanyo PLV-70 (has best lumen output) You also want to decide if you need 4:3 or 16:9 ratio and what media you will view the most.
If your TV only powered off the one time why return it? See if it happens again, and if it does, just call for service! Why risk another bad elivery? If the PQ is the way you want it, keep the TV and don't risk worse problems. Stop the insanity!
The XBR displays all formats in it native resolution of 1386x788. It converts all signals to this resolution. This is the case with all fixed pixel displays. For video scaling an image is not that big of a deal and the 788p resolution looks extremely good. The XBR was rated #2 out of...
The H series has lesser CRTs, but maybe not as bad as the regular ones the link talks about. I honestly don't know. I've seen lots of videophiles chime in on the HX series either in this forum or AVSforum.com. They always say get the hx series. I'm overall happy with my hx series tv. It does...
HX, or Cinema series, TVs have better CRTs. This is a Canadian website but it ells you a little about the Cinema series CRTs. http://www.toshiba.ca/web/link?id=206
I've got a Toshiba 57HX93. Paid 2299 for it at Conn's. I don't know about the Mits, but the Tosh Powerfocus 4 CRTs are advertised to last 50,000 hours with no appreciable deterioration in brightness. How bout THEM apples? And who care about upconverting? From what I've read it's not that...
With the anamorphic lens 16:9 will have more detail and be brighter because all the pixels are used. The Ht1000 has black bars above and below the screen. 4:3 content will fit inside the 16:9 image created by the anamorphic lens. In other words it's like a wide screen TV displaying 4:3...
I'm in the minority here but I picked the 57" over the 65". For my room and viewing distance( 11 feet) I felt the 57" would be brighter and have a better pq. I'm happy with it. I take comfort in knowing my CRTs work less and will last longer.
He's asking about the settings in the picture menu. It offers 540P or 1080i, as well as film and video mode. I'm thinking you should leave the TV in 540P and auto for the film/video, unless you have a source that may switch from one format to the other. I have tried 540P and 1080i and...
I bought a 57HX93 for 2299.00 at Conn's. Had it for two weeks. I'm very happy with it so far. It's got a better picture than the 60" Sony XBR950 I returned after two weeks of ownership.
Yeah, I'm fed up with the rate hikes. One thing that you get for your money is adaptability. I've had TWC change my service about 5 times in the past 3 months. Got a DVR, then Hi-Def, then returned Hi-Def, got Hi-Def back, returned DVR and Hi-Def and picked up a Hi-Def DVR combo. If I had...
Well, I'm not happy with the cost of the service, or the fact that channels 2 through 77 are analog, but TWC has friendly customer service and it's easy to use them. I'm not planning on living here for more than a year, so it seems silly to have a lot of satellite equipment installed. I have...
Just wanted to let everyone know that Time Warner now has a Hi-Def DVR. It's a Scientific Atlanta model. If anyone is familiar with the NTSC version of this DVR, let me just say this box seems to be much better. I've only had it a day, but the pauses the old DVR used to make when channel...
Standard Def will look OK, but not great on the XBR. After two weeks with the XBR and now one week with a Tosh 57HX93 I can safely say the Tosh has a better SD pic, but the XBR's will be good enough for you I think. If the majority of your viewing will be DVD and Hi-Def I wouldn't worry about...
Only you can answer the question about DVI/Component quality. This will vary due to equipment. If you tell us your setup someone here may have something similar and be able to comment. If there is such a beast as a 2 to 1 DVI cable. I'm guessing that you'd need to have one piece of equipment...
