I think Old BOy would have been a better representative from Korea, but rumor has it the geniuses at the studio that released Old Boy missed the submission deadline. Old Boy is a truly unique movie that blew me away. Some of the cinematography is the best I've seen in a while. Though lacking...
One difference that I know of (as a 525 owner) is that the audio dropout issue was resolved in the 635 with a software update. I don't think this update is applicable to the 525. That being said, when I was shopping for a receiver, in my mind, the 635 did not have that many more features than...
I don't think this is exactly what is going on. As far as I know, DRC is simply Sony's own in-house deinterlacing chip. As to the difference between CineMotion and Progressive, someone else may be better able to answer that question... I used to know (back when I was researching my Sony), but I...
Unfortunately, while Lee EunJu was becoming increasingly famous, her management company was making all the money off her rising fame (not an uncommon occurrence in Korean entertainment) and she was no better off than when she started in the industry. Apparently, this was one of the reasons she...
The two actors who played JinSeok and JinTae are two of the top actors in Korea right now. A lot of the bit parts are played by fairly well-known actors. The North Korean commander/general that JinTae captures
is also a very famous actor (his must-see movie is Old Boy... in my opinion one of...
Did a search and no results popped up. I popped this disc in last night to test out my new speaker setup, and I noticed the dialogue was not very clear and didn't sound natural. I didn't have this problem with Van Helsing so I was wondering if this was a problem with the audio mix of the DVD...
Just got done watching the Japanese version, Ju-On. Creepy in parts, but like people have stated, no story or character development whatsoever. I was not impressed. I'm glad I didn't go see the Grudge in the theaters and will wait for it to come out on DVD.
Still not getting any local channels  Called Voom and they are going to have the install company either tweak my antenna or get me a new one altogether. I also noticed that on any picture in 4:3 aspect ratio, about an inch or two of the left-hand side of the picture is cut off...

Well, after an initial delay due to a mistyped phone number by the Voom customer service rep, finally got everything installed this morning. The install guy said that the local channels could take anywhere from 15 minutes to 24 hours to start showing up so I'm kind of nervous about that...

eagerly awaiting Voom install tomorrow. Hopefully in plenty of time to watch the Pistons close out the Lakers. Any fellow Houston Voom subscribers with suggestions/input?
Wow... I'm speechless after having read this thread. I am in the market for home theater speakers and while a Rocket package had been tentatively penciled in towards the top of the list, reading this post puts AV123 head and shoulders above the rest. I still have to audition the speakers to...
Maybe I haven't pushed my 525 hard enough to have the fan come on, but I haven't even noticed it yet. It probably also helps that my receiver is on top of my AV stand so it is completely out in the open. The H/K receivers are known to run hot.
Other than H/K (and now Kenwoods), I haven't heard of any other brands where this is a problem. Like others have said, it's a minor annoyance (to me at least) and the quality of my H/K AVR 525 far surpasses any qualms I have about the 1-2 second drop-out of audio when the movie studio/THX/DTS...
Sorry for the veer off-topic, but I've seen several mentions of the dayton 10" sub and am curious as to how good it is. Of course it would be an improvement over my current setup, but I was planning on getting either a Hsu or SVS later this year, so would the Dayton still be worth it?
Love my 525 too... Make sure you read about the audio drop-out "issue" with the H/K receivers and make sure it's not going to bother you. Also, I don't think you need to "settle" for a refurb for $500. I got a new one for a little more than $400 off of eBay. :emoji_thumbsup:
I have the Harman Kardon AVR 525 and I love it. It fits into the lower end of your price range (even below if you can find a good deal), and it's a very nice mid-entry level receiver. My wife, who doesn't have very discerning ears, especially loves the sound of any and all music played.
Is this different from entering the service menu myself and doing a manual convergence? I have noticed that when I play fast-scrolling video games, it throws the convergence off. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just hallucinating?
My wife and I are moving at the end of May into a new home. I'll be setting up the home theater equipment in the living room in the following floorplan (or one fairly similar): Floorplan My concern is that it's going to be an acoustical nightmare given that it is a fairly wide open space and...
It might help to know what your budget is in US dollars. I think your question is more difficult to answer because even if we made recommendations, there is no telling how much more expensive it is in Turkey and if it is even available. I suggest you pick one of the receivers (they are all...
I think I saw a similar post over on AVS :D Bottom line: Trust your ears. I also don't think that a bad buying experience should eliminate the 430 from your short list. If you liked the way it sounded and the price was right, why not stick with it?
