I always try to inspect discs before I buy them. Recently when I bought the XMEN set (XMEN 1.5 and 2) I went through 3 sets at the shop before I got a complete unscratched 4 disc set.
I looked at both the S1 and the X1 before settling on the Epson Home10TW10. I would say that if you are not bothered by rainbows the X1 is a better projector than the S1. Having said that the S1 is not bad, especially considering the price. In the end the lack of optical zoom put me off the S1...
Eastern Hifi loaned me an s-video cable while the component one was on order. I can't say I really noticed a big difference. Component is supposed to be better, but unless you watched side by side I don't think you would notice. Both are heaps better than composite, I did notice that difference...
Hi Alan, You won't regret spending the extra. I still get a smile on my face every time I put a movie on. Matrix reloaded does look great doesn't it? I enjoyed it more on the projector than I did at the theatre. 120" must look huge from that distance. I have the 100" screen, my viewing...
I bought the home 10. The Z1 was out of my price range, and I was bothered by rainbows on the X1 (make sure you get a decent demo!) I am really happy with the epson!
From Memory Alan is from New Zealand, so the prices he is quoting are in NZ$ which are worth a bit more than half US$. That's why the prices seem a bit high. Alan, Harvey Norman are doing the Epson TW-10 for NZ$3499 with the free screen as well. This is what I ended up getting, and if your...
I can't say I have ever noticed the speed up of PAL over NTSC, but I am a bit of a purist, if it is shot at 24fps, I would rather watch 24fps. Anyone thought that the R4 will probably be release later than the R1, so they have more time to do the DTS track. Dunno if this is the case, but...
That is odd....usually we, down in region 4 land miss out on DTS. PAL is higher res, so takes up more space, leaving less space for extras like DTS. Personally I wish they would just drop all the special features and put DTS on all discs
Buying an LCD projector reduces rainbow effect.... Sorry, couldn't resist....rainbows are the reason I didn't buy an X1, I found them distracting too. I guess the moral of the story is try before you buy.
Alan, I found there seemed to be alot of resistance by some retailers to budget projectors. When it comes down to it they would rather sell an NZ$10000 plasma, or NZ$6000, so are promoting those over the NZ$3000 projectors. Thats one of the reasons I went with Eastern Hifi, they were...
16 x 9 screens do not seem to be widely available here, and are about 50% more expensive for the same width screen. (Which is kinda dumb because they use less material). And in the end it is the screen width that determines the image size. And lets face it, most of my movies are 2.35:1 so are...
I got my Epson EMP-TW10 on friday (sold in the US as the Home 10). These are my impressions so far. I'm not going to post technical details, they are available elsewhere. BACKGROUND: I am a newbie to front projection, this is my first projector, so don't take my review as coming from a...
Alan, Yeah Eastern Hifi are pretty good and the S1 looks great, especially when you consider the price. I ended up buying the TW10 from down Eastern Hifi down here. They did me a great package deal with a screen and cables. In the end the lack of optical zoom put me off the S1. I just don't...
Hi Alan, Got a demo of the Epson TW10 yesterday, and I think I am going to try to squueze it into my budget. It is widescreen native, has better contrast than the S1, and most importantly (to me) it has an optical zoom, which the S1 lacks. Got the demo at Eastern Hifi again, they have given...
We are very fortunate down here in New Zealand.....not only do we make the greatest movies in the world (Peter Jackson is the Patron Saint of Movie Making), but DVDs are almost never released in anything other than OAR. If you are silly enought to want a movie in fullscreen, well sorry, you will...
I looked into the home 10. It is sold in NZ as the EMP TW10. It retails in here for NZ$3299, so is about NZ$800 more than the S1. I haven't been able to view one yet so can't comment on the picture. Alan, Yeah Napier is a great place, we moved down from Auckland in December last year, I...
Alan, I was able to view the S1, and the Infocus at Eastern HiFi here in Napier. They have stores in Newmarket, and Howick in Auckland. They are not the cheapest, but have excellent service. Epson have got a usefull projection calculator on their site to help work out throw distances and...
Hi Alan, this is my first post too. Where abouts in NZ are you? I'm in the same position. Really want a projector, but available funds are not huge. I think I will end up buying the S1. Originally I was keen on the Infocus X1, but my wife and I both found the rainbows distracting. I also...
