I wrote the comparison review that Chris Marin linked to earlier in the thread, and I've since re-published it here. Hope it's of some use for anyone interested in this release
After the recent superb re-release of 2001, it would be nice to see 2010 given similar treatment. Kubrick probably my all-time favourite director, but I still like 2010 a great deal on its own terms. Being a sequel to such a classic it had huge boots to fill, and while its tone and pacing is...
I already own the SD 5-disc edition, but I saw a digital presentation of the Final Cut last week at a local cinema.
WOW. I've never seen BR on the big screen before, and this presentation was better than I could have hoped - the detail, colour, everything was just staggering quality.
I've...
I've just seen this movie today, as it was just released in the UK yesterday, and, while being a HUGE Rodriguez fan, I've got mixed feelings about it. Technically and visually I think it sets a new benchmark for how the latest technology, which many see as too sterile and 'clean' can be used...
Agreed. I've seen the original only once, several years ago on TV, but the marketing campaign for the new version has broguht back some fond memories, and the SE will now be a definate purchase. It's a shame that the SE has been delayed, but I guess November is around the time that...
For anyone interested in Britain's history of film censorship, I can recommend Censored by Tom Dewe Mathews and The Seduction of the Gullible: Curious History of the British "Video Nasties" Phenomenon by John Martin as essential reading. While both are now out of date in that many of the...
Many may have already stumbled across this little gem, but I'm posting this link for those that haven't. The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) have launched a new website, aimed primarily at media studies students, but available to all, which gives much greater detail into some of...
Not sure how significant this is, but I spotted this on the excellent censorship information website, The Melon Farmers.
In summary, the article discusses an apparently new cut of Blade Runner 'doing the festival circuit in 2005'
The site details the extra footage - all violence and gore -...
That's what I had thought as well, but I was happy to find that Columbia had put together a far better collection of extras for the Region 1 release than Pathe did for Region 2, missing commentary not withstanding.
Our review of this release is online now, along with a comparison against the 2003 UK Region 2 Special Edition and the 2001 US Region 1 SuperBit Clicky
I've added a couple of more detailed screenshots to our review which will hopefully demonstrate the transfer issue that this disc has. Click Here Hope it's useful for those who are curious. Mark
The Japanese disc contains English language 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS tracks, as well as a 5.1 Japanese dubbed track, along with player generated - not 'burned in' - subtitles. My review should hopefully cover everything HTH

Indeed. I'm the one who wrote the review that Chris linked to, and write most of the DVD Debate comparison reviews. I don't think I have ever mentioned PAL speedup, simply because I don't recall any noticeable difference. The only thing it really affects is audio, and I find most studios...
Hi guys, Just to add to this thread, my review of the Unrated Extended edition is now online here As well as looking at the new disc, I made a comparison with the old edition, in terms of video and audio presentation, and extras, and was pleasantly surprised at what I found... Just a...
Well, compared to what we have now, I for one would be happy, but compared to the other Fincher SE's I guess it would be a bit .... lacking in depth :D
That's interesting to know. Although I don't own it, I am 99.99% certain that the Region 2 UK release of Armageddon, for example, was released here by Buena Vista , but with the suppliments fro the Criterion disc intact. They are even credited on the sleeve IIRC. So, as you say, perhaps if...
It's pretty clear from the other supplements on the discs, discussing the extensive previs and so on, that Fincher had the film edited before the cameras even rolled :D
I'm no business man, and this may be a little naive of me, but if Criterion have already produced a boatload of extras for their LaserDisc, perhaps Universal could simply license the content from them for a DVD? It would save them the costs of producing all new supplements, meaning that all...
Hi David, First of all a big personal thanks. I was lucky enough to sneak a look at this superb disc last week for my review here, and I have to say that as a David Fincher fan since Alien 3 (still my favourite of his films, no matter what his own feelings about it may be), this DVD is the...
For those interested, here is the editorial in question in full. Full credit, naturally to the writer and VW editor Tim Lucas, who really helped fuel my passion for genre movies. Without his articles, I would never have seen half the movies I have in my collection today. I can't post a real...
