Tom,
You've got a very broad definition of expert and I never mentioned anything being inside information. Only the well known facts that TC Sounds has made SVS drivers and SVS hired Ponte from TC as your new sub designer. Both of those pieces of information can easily be found elsewhere...
Stephen, Sorry, I thought I was clear. My point was when Lee-c wrote, "All the wood-finished sub cabinets are sent back as empty shells to SVS in the U.S. where all other manufacturing, assembly and testing are done in the SVS shop" among other things he did so in error. All assembly hasn't...
I think semantic accuracy is important and if you read the FTC site I linked to then you'll find they don't believe semantics are pointless. For a semantic arguement to become pointless usually people find out they are really saying the same thing. I don't think we are saying the same thing...
Sup spidey, sure things are changing now, how's the move from TC Sounds to SVS going? Liking Ohio? I'm not fully aware of how far along the changes are...sure. Has what I've been saying been false for the past two years? I hope all is going well with you too. Mustatang
How is that true when indeed that is where the drivers are manufactured? Concerning TC Sounds without SVS they were more well known for their car audio drivers in the Eclipse lines before SVS. I've been keeping track of the company for awhile now...before SVS. :) Now, to clear the air, I...
So long as TC Sounds is doing the work none of those statements are true. TC sounds is the subwoofer buildhouse for SVS. TC Sounds outsources. TC Sounds subwoofers are assembled in the US, but they are not made in the US.
That's what I noticed about SVS too. I never expected the Ultra to only be able to hit 105dB before bottoming. Given, it was at 2m instead of 1m, but it really wasn't starting to compress a ton. I'm more suprised by the roll-off up top. Starting at 50 Hz it looks like you've got an...
Hey guys, I stumbled upon this resources the other day. I thought it is definitely worth sharing.. It is best collection of home audio subwoofer tests I have come across so far. If someone is trying to find how to properly test a subwoofer, this is how you do it. SVS: PC Ultra Paradigm...
Wiring is very important on these drivers. I'm glad to see that it isn't a product defect since I've got the same box/driver config with an Adire AVA250. Honestly, I was shocked when I read about the problem. I've had no problems (wired correctly) and constantly give the Atlas 15" everything...
In less than two weeks I'll be moving 5 hours away to a single dorm room. All this stuff is forsale because of that reason. I either can't bring it with me or it is completely impractical for me to do so (I don't think my neighbors would appreciate it). Adire Home Theater - $1,800 - pickup...
Moving from a Shiva to a Tumult is a 400% increase in cost. Shiva to Atlas 15" is a 50% increase. Not to mention that 400w on a Tumult will not do it anywhere near justice and IMO is a terrible route to do unless a completely different amplifier is bought, while a Tempest or Atlas will do fine...
Going from a 12" to a 15" is roughly a 60% cone area advantage. For the cost difference (so long as the spouse is ok with it) go 15" every time. It's noticable, however you might be wanting more especially with that amount of space. Since it is nearly impossible to find a Tempest right now...
I will soon have a comparison between Onix Rocket 750s and Adire Audio 281's (sealed), which will be posted. Nothing formal, but should answer your question.
David, Let's not be to hasty. There are a number of drivers being used in both home and car audio enviroments. For example, the shiva and tempest. Both can sound great in the car and in home. I've used some big HT drivers and big car audio drivers in the home. Both can be used...
I've never been able to tell the difference between the multiple coax cables I use and the few Cat 5 I use from a listening perspective. Except once when my listening room was next to a bathroom with a large fluorescent lamp. Everytime that was on if I was running my equipment using Cat 5 or...
Scott, B-stock can be a number of things. Sometimes it is the pieces that were sent to be photographed, other times it is returned also known as open-box, and it can be damaged equipment also. Usually AV123's stuff is in very good shape even if it is b-stock. They do fluctuate in...
There is no pipe inside the enclosure. The term pipe in this context does not always refer to a cylindrical shape, thus the enclosure is a pipe. Since the pipe is tapered it is called a horn. A box with six sides where one side has a larger opening and the opposing side has a smaller opening...
You took that completely out of context. If you reread you'll see I am saying square cones can be stiff enough to not be a concern. I am not saying that cone stiffness is unimportant. Make sense? :)
As gimmicky as it may be there is a reason for it in car audio since SPL competition began. Increased Sd (radiating surface), which translates into higher Vd (volumetric displacement). Instead of Pi*r^2 you have l^2. If 1/2 l is equal to r then the square will always have greater area with...
I find Dan and his company to be easily one of the best around. I had the opportunity to meet Dan once and during that time I learned more about subwoofer distortion than most people ever want to know. The best part is that it was completely physics and formulas with explanations. Each part of...
