is my 4es on the fritz?

I would not venture a guess. It sounds like you have a faulty unit, but a try of a post on the Agoraquest.com forum may produce some more results. While many of it's members can be seen here, Agoroquest is for Sony users.

Power: wattage, circuit, & surge requirements

I just did a wattage review for all the items that can be hooked up into my current system. The total came to 660 Watts. I also want to allow 200 to 250 Watts for eventual the addition of a powered subwoofer. I would like to know how my power configuration for the 4ES HT system should best...

    4ES question

Alas, I have come to believe that this is sad, but true. I was very much hoping to use the extra 2 speakers like some other receivers do. I have yet to find a way to "reassign" them. I had even heard it could be done, before I bought the 4ES.

differences in Sony ES line (da1es/2es/4es)

I believe that MyDigitalUniverse.com is not an "authorized" dealer. But Sony is not so concerned about where it's sold as long as you have the proof of purchase and the warranty. It is a 5-year warranty. I want to think that I actually contacted Sony about the warranty issue. They honor the...

Need advice: Denon 2803 vs Sony 4ES vs ?

Mike, I purchased my 4ES at MyDigitalUniverse.com for $632 after S/H. You may want to just check out the comparison sites for a few weeks. I have noticed a lot of bouncing of prices on the different online sites. It's amazing how much the prices can change from day to day as well. Always go...

Need advice: Denon 2803 vs Sony 4ES vs ?

I am a very satisfied new owner of a 4ES. I did the very same comparison that you are doing just about a month ago. I decided on the 4ES seeing it as the biggest bang for the buck. The 5-year warranty was also a great help. I, like you, just could not find the 2803 (nor the 1803 for that matter)...

differences in Sony ES line (da1es/2es/4es)

I am a very satisfied new owner of a 4ES. If you cannot afford the $630-$650 to have this receiver shipped to your home, then go for the 2ES. I purchased mine from MyDigitalUniverse.com and was very satisfied. But nothing went wrong and now I rely on the 5 year limited warranty for problems...

Need Someone w/ Tape Measure and Sony 4ES

Angelo, I saw another forum post the distance as 30 cm. I will try to be more clear in which direction this is tonight.

    Recomendations for 6.1 receiver

In the $630 price range you can find a Sony STR-DA4ES on your doorstep. IMHO It runs very, crisp, clean 110W/ch power for 7 channels. It's very tweakable and has a decent interface to work with. I'm very pleased with mine even though I find many people like to bash Sony. The 5 year warranty is...

    Surge protector for amp?

I don't think it's an issue in my home, but some homes have low power issues, where the lights and even TV dim for several seconds. What can you do to protect against that? UPS for the HT? That could cost a bit.

    Surge protector for amp?

Wouldn't "whole house" protection only protect you from what's coming in from the street/pole? What about power surges caused by devices within your home (e.g., microwaves, TVs, dryers, water pumps, unidentified faulty devices, etc.)?

Please Recommend an Amp for my system

I stand corrected and also better informed to boot. Thanks ScottRCapt for the gentle correction. An interesting idea to consider (after I upgrade everything else).;)

Please Recommend an Amp for my system

May I humbly suggest the Sony ES line. For a total delivered price from MyDigitalUniverse of $635 I was able to purchase the Sony STR-DA4ES. It is a very powerful, clean, and fully modern home theater receiver with the latest technologies. Also, the older, some argue, better, DA5ES is still...

Deciding on new A/V Receiver: help.

I went ahead and purchased the STR-DA4ES and will let you know how it goes. My next question will end up being on speakers. But that's for another thread. Thanks so much for all your valuable input.

Deciding on new A/V Receiver: help.

You folks have provided some excellent and helpful input. Of all the additional suggestions so far, the Harmon Kardon AVR525 has been the most interesting and appealing. I like the features and the wide range of decoding formats in the preliminary review of the product. What stands out in...

Deciding on new A/V Receiver: help.

I am looking at purchasing a new A/V Receiver as a first step to move into the Digital Age. High on the list are the Sony STR-DA4ES, Denon AVR-8302, Denon AVR-1082, and Marantz SR5300. The sales persons at Tweeter have been pushing the Denon 1082 and it looks nice, but steer me away from the...
