I have had an excellent experience with my current older Onkyo receiver. But it's approaching 10 years old, and my budget for this kind of stuff disappeared when the kids started college. This would be a great upgrade!
Times are tough, and the discretionary budget for upgrades is no longer an option. This would be an awesome upgrade at the only price point my marriage would allow!
Not sure if this belongs here or in Construction & Interiors... Will be ceiling mounting projector directly above the main listening/viewing position. The projectors I've been considering seem to have front or sometimes front and back IR sensors but not sure how well this would work with me...
There's probably a lot of different ways to splice them, but these things work great! http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=64-3080 Edit: I posted this in a hurry just to show the product. I got them somewhere else too (see below) - now the problem is trying to find the box when I...
I've seen the 7710a (before shipping) at somewhere around $1.45/ft but I'm not sure if it's in 500 ft. rolls only or by the foot. Looks like by the foot. I don't know if I'm supposed to mention where here on these forums? Someone that knows (Frank) tell me! Or just send me an email and I'll...
Just search for it via Google and you'll find lots of sources. You'll probably have to buy 500 ft. of the cable but maybe not if you look hard. I've seen postings where people mentioned $.30+ per foot but I've seen it as low as $.23 per foot for 500 feet. One killer is the price of the...
Try a google search on something like 'allowable drill holes in joists'. As far as I could find, most building codes allow for a maximum hole size of 1/6 of the joist size, and the holes must be more than 2" from either edge (so pretty much in the center) of the joist. I don't know if the metal...
Thanks for the replies! I guess another question (for those using HTPC's): Can you make them "user friendly"? Is this an issue for your family/other users of your system? Thanks, Daryl
Those of you running FP systems - how many are doing so via Home Theater PC's? Is the HTPC necessary or just another set of tweaks to get the most out of the FP? The HTPC has me concerned about the extra cost, the extra time building/tweaking, etc., and whether or not the system will be too...
It comes in different thicknesses. I would have trouble finding the receipt right now - I think the 3" thick was something like $0.27 per square foot? If I recall correctly the total including delivery was under $300 for enough for a double layer of 3" SAFB for a 450 square foot basement...
I was looking into these and called Owens-Corning because my local Home Depot was going to have to special order them. The O.C. rep told me they were the same as the regular insulation - just packaged and rated for sound-proofing instead of for insulating. He suggested going with regular R13...
I'll stick with my car analogy (with the sex one I'd probably stick my foot in my mouth and offend someone)! You've got your basic transportation and your luxury cars and everything in between. There are still a whole bunch of people out there renting VHS tapes (or even DVD's), and watching...
Another analogy - driving a Rolls Royce is obviously a few steps up from driving a Yugo, but either way you're driving a car. To be as ridiculous as these Leon and Shane, it isn't sex unless you're spending the night with __________ (fill in the blanks with your favorite fantasy). Home...
Troy- Our "under construction" basement stays pretty cool so I hope not to need extra a/c, but if we do I will look into ductless mini-split systems. I've seen them mentioned here and elsewhere. You can search on "ductless mini split" on google.com and get a lot of places to research further...
Scott-- Since this thread started out about soffits - just to clarify, did you use the Homasote on all surfaces or just soffit or just ceiling & soffit? Thanks, Daryl
He probably means resilient channel. Look around at www.soundproofing.org or www.auralex.com (I think they call it RC8 there) for some explanations. Basically it reduces the contact between the drywall/sheetrock and the studs so as to reduce some of the sound transmission. From what I...
www.soundproofing.org (and www.auralex.com and probably a bunch of other acoustical/sound sites) have some GREAT info but sometimes their product prices are inflated. I'm not sure of the rules here on bashing companies so here's a couple examples of what's available out there - you can do...
Unfortunately the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor?) probably won't allow me to light up while watching movies but... I've been playing poker with the same guys every 6 weeks or so for the last 12 years so just last week I was researching this for the basement I'm remodeling as multi-purpose...
Somewhere here in the early days (not that long ago really!) of my having discovered this great forum, I saw something that gave me the impression that there might be some good reasons (acoustically?) for covering a soffit with MDF instead of drywall. Now I have searched for any threads that...
