Hmm, I may hold off buying the Criterion Seven Samurai now, as I wouldn't want it twice. I was considering the BFI edition (with it being PAL and R2 and all), but it has hard-coded subtitles.
To be honest, I'd rather have the extras. Didn't Universal say they left off DTS on region 1 because there was very little difference in quality anyway?
Progressive PAL seems to be a very murky issue at the moment, I read there were legal problems with it (I guess patents and stuff) and some TVs advertised as progressive scan can only do progressive NTSC (likewise with DVD players). If I were you I'd steer clear of progressive PAL for the time...
Well, as long as your NTSC player will output a PAL signal (you can probably set it to detect which video format and output that) then there's no reason not to bring along your NTSC player. Although some cheaper TVs only support PAL 60, which your NTSC player probably won't convert NTSC to. I...
Your collections should work great in a PAL country, almost all relatively new TVs in a PAL country can do NTSC, so you just set your player to output NTSC. NTSC->PAL 60 conversion I've seen is generally fairly good anyway, though NTSC to normal PAL is obviously bad (NTSC is 60hz, with PAL at...
Hmm, I just found that the UK edition of this DVD has fewer extras than the DD R1 release (the UK edition is called Twelve Monkeys, and includes The Hamster Factor, but no commentary), while the R1 has the commentary and is called 12 Monkeys. Is it worth paying an extra £4 for the R1?
Cool, thanks for that Oscar. I have to admit never ordering DVDs from cd-wow (ordered a CD once a year or two ago). Are they good, do they package the DVDs well?
There are a few cheaper European TVs (well, here in the UK) that don't support NTSC, but pretty much all at least will support PAL 60, which is PAL at 60hz, and is what most DVD players are set to convert NTSC to by default (well, from what I've seen).
Well yes it confirms that a volume 2 is planned, but if sales were poor they may not go through with it. I honestly have no lcue how well it sold, but I think volume 2 is quite likely.
I hear a few different types of DVD case constantly being mentioned here, but I'm not too sure which is which, so could anyone explain the difference between an Amaray and Alpha case, or any other type of cases, or point me to a website that will? Thankyou Sorry for the newbie-ness, and...
Well, wherever possible I'd normally prefer a region 2 PAL release, but if it's probably not being released over here in the near future I have no choice. So I guess in a way I'm in a better situation here in the UK. My DVDs may cost more on average than the American releases, but at least most...
I'm looking forward to season 2, I imported season 1 from America for £29.99, and that's about 27 hours worth of classic sci-fi, pretty good price I thought :) I'm not very interested in the new series of the Outer Limitd though, I didn't like it much.
Do most American TVs not support PAL then? Most fairly new TVs over here in the UK support NTSC, and oldfer ones PAL 60, which all DVD players I've seen can convert NTSC too. I guess fyou Region 1 people don't import region 2 very much :)
