does the optical line-in also provide line out capability?or will i have to make do with analog line-out?

i can get any program and need something to let me control some line-in transfers from a minidisc player,the easyer the better because i have no previous experience with these sort of things

i am trying to set up my pc for music use but dont like the music playback of my audigy 1.would the digifire be an improvment or not?i was looking at the m-audio cards but would have trouble getting one in my country.
