I had a rough time with the picture quality of this set. The color seemed off and it was very grainy, particulary in the darker scenes. I thought the flesh tones were pretty poor as well. Does anyone know if this was done in HD or was it Fox WS?
Trevor, I'm going to suggest that you get a setup disc and set your levels according to it. For example, I have the Chesky Ultimate Surround Sampler and Setup disc. If I remember correctly, to use the test tones in the 2900, you need to realize that the subwoofer level is about 10 dB lower...
I'm loving my 2900. I bought it as an audio player and the crystal clear video is a nice bonus. Having no noticeable layer change on any disc I've watched is great. After working through the bass management with various setup discs, I'm quite please with the SACD and DVD-A performance...
I've sent the amp and transformer back to the manufacturer. They replaced the caps which did nothing for the hum. The hum is coming from the speaker. I'm going to try and shield the transformer with flux shield sa guyen suggests. Thanks guys.
Thanks for the advice guys but I don't think it's ground loop. It exhibits the hum no matter what outlet it's plugged into, it's a two-prong plug and it hums without being connected to any signal source. I thought it was significant that it doesn't hum when the transformer is out of the enclosure.
I have a powered subwoofer that has 60 hz transformer hum. This hum occurs simply by plugging it into an outlet and not having the interconnect attached. The transformer is firmly seated and the power cord is two prong. I took it apart yesterday and separated the components. When I took the...
Peter, I have the 2900/950 combo and I've tried the bass management both ways with about the same results. I have no preference right now. Charles, I tried to get the LFE to redirect to the mains but I haven't gotten it to work yet. In the 2900 I set the speakers to Large and the sub...
David S. I believe if you set up the 2900 with the filter on, speakers to small and sub to yes; then, on the 950, analog bass management switch to off; you will have the 2900's bass management covering all bass management duties. There will be a small amount of bass directed (doubled) to the...
The hiss has been eliminated as Jim (Gonk) has posted. As far as speakers, I'm using an M&K setup (SW-95s mains, SW-85s surrounds, S-85 center, VX-100 sub) and it has been stellar for movies and very good for music. The combo is worth a try. You can always send the Outlaws back if you're not happy.
David, You're correct about the M&Ks not shutting off. However, you should be able to get a power switching powerstrip for it or just leave it on. My VX-100 is on all the time. I didn't see a difference in my electric bill and the electronics don't suffer from being powered all the time. The...
Ian, Is there any chance you can move the sub out of the corner? Even a little bit (say 6 inches) may help. If you can, it may tighten up as you move it away from at least one room boundary. A new sub in the same place may not solve your problem but alternate placement and/or acoustical...
I recommend you research the M&K VX-100 and MX-700 subs. They are small but load a room most effectively. I have the VX-100 and I'm very happy with it. With any small sub, placement will play a large role in getting good response. There's a review of the VX-100 posted at the M&K website, Link...
I installed M&K SW-95s last year when we put on an addition to our house. I have been very pleased. Browse through http://www.mksound.com. See if there are any dealers of any good inwalls around you and try to get him to listen to a few brands first. Good luck.
Altan, Check the Yamaha's manual and make sure it can handle 4 ohm speakers. 100 W at 8 ohms is something like 150-200 W at 4 ohms. Your M&Ks can handle that but the amp might not which will produce distortion and clipping, thus destroying the speaker. Good luck.
Chu Gai offers some very good advice. Determine why the M&K failed. I think that speaker should have handled at least 200 W, with an operating range of 50 W to 200 W. I'm also pretty sure that they are 4 ohm speaker. As Chu suggests, if the speaker is underpowered by the amp, you'll have the...
Nate, You are looking at an M&K sub. Have you considered (and ruled out) the M&K inwalls? I use the SW95s as mains and SW85s as surrounds. I am quite pleased with the setup and installation was a breeze. When I was looking for inwalls last year, I couldn't find a dealer for the triads. Good...
Last year, I installed a pair of M&K SW-95 as my main speakers in a new addition to our house. The speakers came with two pieces of acoustical foam. One piece surrounds the speaker, creating a "pseudo" enclosure. The second piece is a flat piece of foam that is placed behind the woofer to absorb...
I've been enjoying my M&K setup for almost a year now. I expanded my family room and installed M&K SW-95s as the main speakers and SW-85s as the surrounds. A S-85C Center channel and VX-100 subwoofer complete the system. As mentioned above, if you're going for inwalls, you have to spend some...
