    Grado sr60's vs sr80's?

To others that have tried them both, did any of you notice a difference between the two headphones aside from the type of pads? If I'm using them to listen to the radio/mp3's/movies from my computer, is it worth getting the sr80's or just the sr60's with some sennheiser pads? Thanks, Bhavesh

    surround sound worth it?

To a certain extent, after one has decided to get a home theater, money dictates the result. I would love to have a home theater; but as a student I don't have nearly as much money it requires to make one. Furthermore, I don't think my three roommates would be too thrilled about feeling the...

basic cable connection to HT receiver

One way requires that one of your components has a set of audio outputs. Some TV's have audio outputs as a set of stereo RCA jacks on the back but VCR's also have this incorporated into their design. If you have audio outputs on your TV, then just run it directly to your receiver. But feeding...

dorm theater - sound quality deficiency from soundcard?

Hmm, that's an interesting site you pointed out, Gai. According to the site, the soundcard I have is, but not much different from an upgrade to soundblaster live. I'll try out some basic noise-elimination solutions with my current sound card to see if I can get better results. Nevertheless...

dorm theater - sound quality deficiency from soundcard?

I hear lots of noise and static, even when I'm wearing headphones. So based on the responses, I think I'll try a new soundcard with 5.1. According the the creative website, any soundcard ABOVE the pci128 has a better frequency response and less noise. There is some noise attributed to the...

Is this the sign of a failing receiver.

Maybe you're losing your hearing? :D

dorm theater - sound quality deficiency from soundcard?

Will upgrading the soundcard enhance the sound quality noticeably? Can it extend the frequency range output? I have the generic soundblaster PCI128 that came with my computer and it seems like it can't reproduce upper treble range. Boosting the 15kHz (which I think is really a 6kHz boost)...

26 Hz rumble - from standing waves?

Recently I sold a 10" Eclipse 88000 (10" aluminum cone subwoofer from car-audio) to buy speakers and a cheaper subwoofer (elemental designs e10k) to go in a 0.5 cubic foot sealed box (recommended). After the initial week break-in period, I gave the sub various tests in test tones, techno/dance...

    headphone help..."fatigue"

Wayne, you brought up another important point that should also be apparent with any purchase: the application. I use them during the long hours of homework so I should consider open air headphpnes when I go test some out. On the other hand, surprisingly enough, my $20 philips headphones did not...

    headphone help..."fatigue"

That was well written, things are more clear now. Physical fatigue is what I suffer from presently, but it's more along the lines of the buildup of heat, which leads to sweat. From your response, and similar to any speaker purchase, I'll have to go audition each of the headphones with some of my...

    headphone help..."fatigue"

Based on a reply I got once, what does it mean for a headphone to "fatigue" your head? Is it similar to heat/sweat around and inside your ears? If so, do all headphones do this? Which headphones do not? The clamp on my Philips set is broken, so I think I'll be looking around for some...

    Controlling the "Wire Jungle"

I even use the split loom for my computer wires and for $0.19/foot for 1/2", you can't go wrong. I'm not sure if car stereo practices fall through to home theater, but if you need to have power wires pass speaker wires, cross them perpendicular to each other to avoid noise.

newbie - budget dorm theater help (tough)

That's a fair argument Jeremey, I didn't realize that was your intention. But I'm at college where food/electricity/water/laundry have been paid for. Clubs and dinner's are way too expensive in Boston to be somewhat satisfied for one night. So I decided that $40 is much better spent longterm on...

newbie - budget dorm theater help (tough)

Sathyan, It will be for myself but with the capacity to entertain others. I already have a pair of cheap headphones that I use when it's best to keep to myself. But for this application, I feel that speakers are in my best interest. However a soundcard is also a good investment so I'll keep my...

newbie - budget dorm theater help (tough)

I'm looking to upgrade what I have so that I can get better clarity and more bass. It'll be primarily used for music and weekly movie watching. However, I have a really tight budget so this may be a tough setup to tackle. Here's what I'm starting with: - generic stereo soundcard, one output...

    El Cheapo Speaker Project

I'm with Kyle, your best bet is to buy a subwoofer used, so that it will still be cheap. From car audio, MTX 4000, bazooka EL, jbl lc & (some) gt, and Kenwood tornado series subwoofers go pretty cheap. Just make sure you pick up a single voice coil 4ohm sub, and it should work in almost any...

Fast and cheap "Garage Blasters" ?

I'm running a set of Kenwood 6x9 3-way speakers (I got free as leftovers from an audiophile) in carpeted boxes on a Kenwood stereo receiver (got free for installing a car stereo) running 4ohm stereo and they sound pretty good. I also have a caraudio 10" Kenwood Tornado (that I got for free since...
