Just a word of advice to all - some of the OOS titles take FOREVER. I think a couple items I ordered around Christmas took >6 weeks to arrive. They will ship items out as they arrive in stock, however.
Those are all out of my price range, and I haven't listened to any of them, but I'll throw my comments out there anyways. The Joseph Audios have certainly been highly reviewed in the past - I'm sure you wouldn't go wrong at that price. Dynaudios and Proacs are beautiful, and sound...
Movies I have watched over and over and over Rushmore Big Lebowski (probably number 1) Spirited Away (I don't get it either) Movies I bought, but only watched once: Grave of the Fireflies (I could watch it again, but I'd probably kill myself) Requiem for a Dream (also really depressing -...
"Proper" technology would mean, at the very least, proper bass management, which don't get until the Denon 2200. I haven't followed the whole hi-def audio thing much, so I don't know anything besides that.
I second this request. I'd also note that someone on ebay is selling the n24II bookshelces for 50 a pair, plus s/h (would turn out to be 130 for four). I'm not sure where you'd track down a center.

You can pick up the Pi AND Requiem for a Dream 2-pack at DDD for only 10.53. Everytime I see that, I want to buy it, even though I already own it. There is not a better deal in DVD-dom.
Also check out the nsp1 (not the II's). Others would know better, but I really don't think that there is any audible difference between the two. Also, the old nsp1 is available for 230 shipped, new-in-box right now, or 220 + shipping from shopping.yahoo.com.
I'm looking for a 5.1 speaker setup for my parents, and I'm trying to avoid spending the money on a N-24/wm40 setup (which is what I have in my HT setup now), which would come to about 400 shipped. The HTD Level One set seems like a pretty tight deal - six speakers including wall mounts for...
I don't have that exact model, but I also have a midline HT receiver (Sony DB 840), and a gtp something with the gfa545. I always use the adcom setup for music listening, and that is on top of the fact that I was really surprised at the musical quality of the sony, at least compared to yamahas...
You are definitely going to be looking at used equipment then (check out audiogon or ebay). Your best bet would be something solid and boring like an adcom, rotel, parasound, or bryston, though that price point may be hard to hit with those brands. The Bryston for sale above will most likely...
The only reason current receivers have subwoofer outputs is that the dolby 5.1 has a channel for the subwoofer. Pro Logic has no subwoofer channel, and unless Yamaha added some proprietary decoding, you are (semi) out of luck. It looks like you have to go line or speaker level inputs.
I have a quick, vaguely off-topic question for you DIY'ers. Are there any online sort of resources you used in building the rack, or did you just sort of wing it?
For one thing, running the ps2's analog outs to the receiver is almost guaranteed to make the sound worse, unless the receiver has an analog bypass (with most analog sources into an ht receiver, the analog is converted to digital, modified, dsp'ed, etc., then converted back to analog). If you...

Pretty informative.
Also, I have never heard a good thing about a Sony speaker (other than that sub). Then again, I've never heard a good thing about Kenwood speakers, but their HTB's supposedly are great, so discount my opinion.
At first I thought this post was a joke, honestly, but I guess that REL has started to make some cheaper subs now. In my opinion, from my reading, HSU Research and REL are the two best sub makers out there. In my opinion, it's kind of a no brainer, but I'm not spending the money. I have owned...
I was in the market for a pair of bookshelf speakers, and I A/B'ed the paradigm monitor 3's (I think that was what they were- $400 retail) vs. the NHT SB-2 (the superone replacement). I was expecting great things from both of them, seeing as high their reputations are here. However, the monitor...
About the no-commision BB salespeople and extended warranties, I'm pretty sure that they do get extra money, or bonuses, or something, for the extended warranties they sell.
