Last night at about 10:10pm (PST) the Windows Update site was definitely offline. There was a short message there extolling the virtues of Windows Update, and thanking the user for visiting, but no links to anything helpful. Then, I checked again ten minutes later, and the site was acting...

I was watching channel 108, I don't remember the channel name, something like KCTSD. It looked slightly better than the other three channels, but still far inferior to ESPN-HD. Granted, that was only one program sampled from each channel, so hopefully KCTS will have better-looking programming soon.

I think this poll on CNN says it all. I can hardly blame MS too much when 40% of people are this stupid. :angry: On the other hand, people like that are great job security for IT hacks like me! :D

The new ESPN-HD channel is gorgeous, I actually watched a few minutes of a sporting event last night, it was so lovely. The HD PBS channel is underwhelming to my eyes, quite blurry and noisy. Hopefully it'll improve...

Possibly stupid question: is this show ever on at a decent hour on HBO-west? I don't have a vcr hooked up to the TV with HBO access, and don't feel like staying up until 2am or whenever...

I borrowed a voltage meter from work, and the voltage in all the outlets seems OK, maybe a little high (121-124 volts). I'm not sure if this is relevant. :)

It's a condo, and it's about 24 years old. I don't know if it's the original wiring, I've only lived here about a year...

Just out of curiosity, what did Strom Thurmond accomplish in his lifetime, aside from warming a Senate seat for decades? I can't find any references to any great pieces of legislation that the man put forth. Did he do anything important, or just live a really long time?

Has anyone seen this? I just bought a new RPTV (Sony 51WS500) and when it's turned on, the image on both my computer monitors starts to get all shaky and wobbly. The monitors and tv are on three different surge protectors, plugged into outlets in three different areas of my condo. What is this...

I generally get more out of the /. discussions than the actual articles (often, because the websites the articles are from have been "slashdotted" out of existence by the time I get there). I wish the HTF would institute a ranking system for the posts like Slashdot's, and the signal-to-noise...

As a Prius owner (2001 model), I dunno if this new one is all that. The back end looks squished down, and the back seat presumably has much less headroom. The dashboard looks very similar to mine, but with more buttons, not sure what they're for. Of course, the better fuel mileage makes it all...
