Could you have bumped the Operating Level button on the BFD while hooking up your new amp? It needs to be in the -10dBV (home) setting, not the +4dBu setting. A long shot, I know. I'll go back in my shell now.
I don't mean to imply the shakers are highly effective at loud volumes, at least in my environment. For me they're a way to enhance bass effects while volumes are reasonably low, and my actual sub's volume is also low. The shakers do a nice job for that. But when I watch an action movie at...
Mike, I didn't know what they were called, but it sounds like a compressor/limiter is exactly what I need. I'll check ebay prices over the coming weeks. Thanks.
John, Thanks for the reply. I don't think I was clear. I'm powering the 4 shakers with an old plate subwoofer amp. My issue is that I want a way to diminish the shaking at loud volume while leaving low-to-moderate volume shaker effects untouched, i.e. I want to limit the signal that's passed to...
I don't even know if what I'm looking for is possible. I installed 4 Aura Pro Bass Shakers in my sofa about 6 months ago to help with the illusion of bass when watching movies at low-to-moderate volume. And I'm completely satisfied with their performance for that task. And when I watch a...
Another oldie, here. RX-V2095 Yamaha receiver. Still happy with it. I'm feeding the rear channels to an old pro-logic receiver for a faux 6.1 setup, actually 8.1 with the front effects channels.
Sounds like you have a tight budget. I used KLH speakers with my first dolby pro-logic receiver loooong ago, and they may be just the ticket for you now. But probably not. At the time I thought they were fine but after listening to lots of speakers since then, I'd recommend you stay away...
Thank you for posting this. I rec'd a bfd yesterday, and today when I looked for the bfd faq, which I'd read a year or so ago, I couldn't find it. Thought I'd check on HTF and this thread was already waiting. What a great forum.
Thanks for the response - since posting this, I found an s&v review which said the hk330 goes into protect mode when driving multichannel 4 ohm loads at 25 watts, although it did go on to say "real world dynamic signals presented no problem with these low-impedence loads". Oh well.
Just heard a magnepan 5.1 setup (not the mmg w/c's) over the weekend and loved them. Does anyone have an informed opinion whether an HK 330 can drive magnepan mmg w / c speakers to loud but not insane levels? HK has a reputation for building robust amplifiers, but I don't believe its spec'd for...
Me, too. Yam RXV2095 for the front 3 and front-effects channels, and an old sony pro-logic for the back 3 channels/4 speakers. Don't know how it compares to what's available today, but does sound more enveloping than just having 2 surround speakers.
I'm curious where you're having it repaired. Electra-Sound? They repaired my 2095 a year ago for a different problem (remote volume control stopped working) and its worked great ever since.
I've been wondering the same thing after reading about the bass in some of the recent DVDs like the new Matrix. I have a ported AV-12 run off a JBL pro amp. I haven't noticed it bottoming out, but wonder if something like a Harrison Labs 20hz high-pass FMOD from partsexpress would be prudent...
I'll be in Toronto next week for training and wonder if there's any Axiom or Dahlquist dealers there. I checked their respective websites and didn't find anything. Any recommendations appreciated.
I second the above post. I also have an RX-V2095 and feel the front effects speakers make the soundstage more expansive than when they're not used. Try it with some speakers you already own before you buy anything, since I believe the frequency range sent to the front effects is fairly limited...
I screwed up! When I didn't get the output I expected I just assumed it was insufficient voltage based on what I had read in this post and elsewhere. In fact my problems were self-inflicted. The JBL MPC200 pro amp (built by QSC) has screw connections for input, and when I fabricated a...
I'm confused about BFD features. Can a BFD be used to boost the sub-out signal from my Yamaha receiver if I feed a pro amp? Or is the BFD simply the best parametric equalizer for subwoofers at its price point, but not necessarily useful for boosting the sub-out signal from a consumer(Yamaha)...
Probably C When I'm ready to buy something, I typically find the best online price, then go to 'my' audio store for an audition. If I like what I hear, I tell him what I can buy it for online and see what he can do. He only has to get somewhere close to the online price and we have a deal. It...
On your original question, i.e. small speakers. You may want to see if you can find the Acoustic Research HC6 package (about $400 at etronics.com) and show them to your wife. They're small (though not as small as you say whe wants), they're gorgeous, and may have the WAF you need. That being...
Room 16 x 22. Love it. The sweet spot is about 7-8 feet from the rear side and rear-center speakers. I think it sounds great, well worth the effort to set up. I haven't listened critically to any of the newer 7.1 processors since I'm not looking for a reason to upgrade. I'm one of those poor...
I have a yamaha RX-V2095, a poor relation to yours, which has jumpers between the pre-out and main-in. I look for tips and tricks occasionally for Yamahas, and came across this tip using search a while ago. The post was from Keith Mickunas (don't want to steal credit) and it looks like you...
You asked if there was an advantage using the digital output. There may be, depending on what programming package you receive from your cable company.
HBO has recently begun broadcasting a few selected movies in DD5.1, which sounds great. I also think the audio on the digital stations sounds...
Please forgive my ignorance. Can you more fully explain "Does not scale anamorphic disks"? And do you know how would this apply to a Sony 61HS10, a 4:3 set which does the 16:9 squeeze? Thanks.
