Carl, That's interesting. I pretty much follow the routine of my local googleplex. The only deviation is that I occasionally throw in a classic cartoon, although there are very few quality discs of cartoons around. OT: When are we going to get decent Tom & Jerry a WB toons in ORIGINAL...
Like a few have already pointed out, you can get pretty close to the theater experience with an HTPC with a broadband Internet connection. Here is my movie night routine: Play music from DirecTV before the movie starts. Then fire up your favorite browser and head over to Quicktime.com...
Andrew,
No apologies needed. I hope I didn't come off as a history elitist - snob, I am certainly not. I just happen to be very interested in Texas, Mexican, Spanish colonial history. I grew up right in the middle of this historic area. I have been to the Alamo dozens of times and it is a...
Andrew,
You got it a little wrong. The defenders of the Alamo were not necessarily Americans. Some were settlers from mostly the southeastern U.S., some were native indians that had been converted to catholicism and had been assimilated into the Spanish culture that had conquered the area and...
None of the main characters were interesting. I think they missed a grand opportunity when they didn't include more of Jude Law's character. What's up with Hanks role? It seems very implausable to me that a mob hitman is going to have a stable family and strong feelings for his kids. Not that I...
Steve, Great effort, thanks! I don't always have time to watch a cartoon before the show, so I have been going trough these slowly. Now I can keep track of where I am. Awesome.
Patrick,
Are you suggesting that Kate & Leopold is a, hum, a Chick-Flick, and that these types of movies are seen only by the, "gulp", female population, and that said population is, (uh, uh, oh my goodness) audio/video technology challenged, and that they would not be able to recognize audio...
Not having spent a lot of time in truly top grade theaters maybe you're right. I can say that there are two major cineplexes in my immediate area, one is THX certified the other is not and even today the difference is significant. I won't even consider going to the non-certified theater anymore.
Maybe it can be said that THX is the father of true high fidelity film presentation and set the standard for modern home entertainment technology, but I think its usefulness is dead. It is still viable as an accrediting body for theaters wanting to distinguish themselves, but thats it.
As far as the larger black bars could it be because this disc is not anamorphic? I use an HTPC (I am able to scale the image to suit) and all my older discs that are non-anamorphic seem to be wider than the anamorphic ones.
...that just because you are totally desensitized and oblivious to your four year olds bad behavior does not mean it doesn't annoy the sh*t out of the rest of us. ...to date there is only one sequel that really matters, The Godfather Part II. ...you should respect the director's decision...
Is there any news as to who is going to star in this? Also, I hope we get a more realistic and accurate telling of the story that provides insight into BOTH sides of the battle.
Here, I hope, is an explanation that is easy to understand.
Movies are shot in different aspect ratios:
1.85x1
2.35x1
1.78x1
1.66x1
1.33x1
to name the most popular.
My local theater handles these different ratios by masking the screen on the sides with adjustable black fabric because the...
I haven't read any reviews or impressions here yet. My local best buy doesn't have it and I'm pissed. I'm on my way to Circuit City with my fingers crossed.
Well I got my October Sky free disc yesterday. I don't want to start any kind of controversy but I did notice that it came without shrinkwrap and when I looked at the disc there are a few smudges on the data side. Could it be we're getting discarded demo discs or something, or possibly those...
