    Denon AVR 5803 Price Question

If you are seeing a genuine 5803 with a reserve that low, it is one of two things 1) Stolen 2) A black or grey market european model that has been diverted back to the US by several means. Denon tracks its serial numbers very carefully, and requires receipts on every warranty covered...

How do I "break-in" an amp?

No change in sound quality after long periods of use? Yeah, just like wine doesn't need to be aged, either. The break in time will never be truly over, an amplifiers' sound is always changing. Later in it's life however, the rate of change diminishes more.

Speaker wire connectors -VS- Straight Wire connection.

Granted, gold is not as good as a conductor as copper, but the oxidation that forms on exposed copper hinders signal flow more than any gold plating. Keep in mind that the speakers' jacks are also gold plated, so the gold plating on the terminations will not cause extra measureable signal...

    Amp interference w/ TV?

It's called a modulator, it's made by RCA and it costs $40. You got lucky, most people that have tried the DVD through the VCR trick get a picture that slowly cycles from a bright to a dark picture. This is due to the fact that DVD players modulate at a higher frequency than most VCRs.

Is there any device to measure the output watts from a reciever?

Output on equipment is rated in watts because the FTC requires it be rated in SOMETHING. If watts mattered, than they would be called wattifiers, but alas my equipement has AMPlifiers... Additionally, the manufactureers have about 30 different tricks to get the output they desire for watts, THD...

How is the Sony DVP-NS900V DVD player?

The DVPNS755V is sloted as a replacement for the entry level SACD/DVD DVPNS500V with some minor improvements. The 900V will certainly outperform the 755V and the 900V is regarded as better for video than the 9000ES due to its far superior DACs and video processing chip. It doesn't carry the ES...

    Set up disk

Yeah, and the AVIA disk says that the cables that come in the box with your DVD, VCR, etc. are the only ones you'll ever need. AND that anyone who tries to sell you better cables is a quote "Snake Oil Salesman." You can trust a company that tells you quality wiring and cable won't help the...

The Revelation of Being a Newbie ( help! )

Since yuor listening ratio is 60/40 music/movie, you'll still need a 5.1 receiver. I am quite happy with my DA333ES and would have replaced it with the Da5ES but decided instead to add teh TAN9000Es power amp. I vote for DA5ES because of its ability for adjustment that you don't tend to find...

The average movie patron does not know what??.......

It is only fair to the people who toiled, and I do mean toiled to make a film that I watch the closing credits. There is quite a bit of good information in those credits, How many stunt people where required, what company did the soundtrack, what's on the sound track, etc. How many people...

    Cable Mangement

Good advice, but once a year? I guess I'm a little obsessive, I do this type of maintenece every 2-3 months. Especially the dusting, it is the #2 enemy of electronics(heat being #1). And I use case logic velcro cable ties, they work great and they are color coded.

The average movie patron does not know what??.......

Don't get me wrong, I like Movies. I like films. 've hated both also. A Film is something you walk away from and want to watch it again, instantly or maybe it leaves you wondering what really happened. Something profound that isn't the same as everything else. True art. A movie is where...

Favorite Scenes for Demonstration Of Home Theater

I just bought Behind Enemy Lines(dts), and SAM Attack is quite good, especially on a front projector. Also nice is the scene of our main character running through the trees, the tracers whizzing by and hitting branches has caused more than one customer to reflexively flinch.

The average movie patron does not know what??.......

A film is a well directed, thought provoking and/or suspenseful piece of art, with impressive cinematography and actors(not to be confused with people on-screen reciting dialogue). A movie is 90-120 minutes of Hollywood underestimating my intelligence.

Favorite Scenes for Demonstration Of Home Theater

At the specialty Home Theater store where I am employed we have this discussion quite often. What are the best scenes to demo to customers to present Home Theater. Several swear by "Streets of Chicago" from "Driven" others prefer the deep scenes from "U-571". Some are partial to "Club...
