One other thought that hasn't been mentioned is that the "popping" sound could also be the driver bottoming because of air leaks in the cabinet. These in effect change the tuning and allow the driver to unload prematurely. Carefully check all of your joints and cutouts. You can use incense smoke...
Garth, My home theater is in an area about 1100 sq/ft. One good thing is that large areas tend to be a little more even in response than a small room. The other thing to think about is that even though the room is big, people usually aren't listening to music or movies over on the far side. So...
Welll, you originally said you wanted to spend about $400 and you wanted to have an "endtable" sized result. I would go with a sealed Adire Shiva or Tempest for a music only application. One caution, this will depend on how big your room is, and how loud you listen. If you don't have your...
What ever you do P@, ignore any finishing advise from MKnapp. God knows what you could end up with.:D
After reading some of these replies, that goes for Mr. Bunge also. Red and green, man what are you thinkin????
:D
The "general" opinion is that if you have the room, matching speakers are the best solution for mains/centers. It keeps the voicing the same across the front. There will be some tradeoffs if you lay an MTM on its' side for center duty but most people find it quite acceptable.
Also, double check the seal around the terminal cup. I have used FrostKing brand rope caulk for building speakers. It provides a great seal but can be hard to get apart if you decide to remove a driver for some reason. Air leaks can deffinately cause big problems. With my Adire alignment I...
My brother-in-law built an airplane in an apartment so anything is possible. 19' wingspan, rotax engine, taildragger... His neighbors were sure surprised when he carried it out to the trucks to take it to the airfield.. :D
Also, is it possible that you have any air leaks in the cabinet? If your tuning is in effect too high the driver will unload and easily head for the xmax limit. The last possibility is that there is some mechanical problem with that particular driver. After you've double checked everything else...
I looked at all three you listed. All have very small xmax and relatively high Fs. I am guessing they're aimed at horn loading applications. I don't see them as a practical choice for home theater subs. Here's a quote from another thread on this forum. "You've probably heard of EBP before...
Brian, I am not in Atlanta, but about 4 hours north. If you ever want to do a Saturday drive I'd be happy to let you spend some hours with my 281s. Maybe you could get Pat to come with you and we could have a mini meet. Doug "Lexman" lives here so you could visit the Cat Cable home also.
Riaad,
In "general", car subs don't usually work out well for HT applications. You can deffinately order on-line from several good manufacturers. You may want to check with Dan at Adire to see if he could arrange international shipment... www.adireaudio.com
Also, www.madisound.com /...
FWIW, Subs aren't the only app for isobaric drivers. I have read some tests of Totum (sp) and Linn monitors that also use the design in monitor applications. The resultant speaker will have possibly deeper response from the same footprint and also possibly better distortion figures. The downside...
:emoji_thumbsup: First class looking sub. I'm guessing you did the Adire alignment from the size. If so, I know how that sounds... :D You gotta be lovin it.
Just remember this pic the next time someone says "hey, I got these neat plans for a "horn loaded" sub. True horn subs are very, very big. There is a plan on the net for a so called horn sub called the "Wicked One" that can double as a coffee table. You have to wonder how that can be. I have...
