Typically, the speaker wire goes into a hole in the side of the banana plug. The end screws down onto the wire to hold it in place. The hole in the end is to plug another banana plug into it piggy-back fashion. See this link

Is there any reason to choose the 5.1 output over the digital audio output from my DVD player to my receiver? I have a Denon AVR-3803 receiver and a Denon 2910 DVD player. Is it a function of which one has a better decoder? Which one does?
