    Outlaw's new pre/pro, the 990.

Sounds like a lot to me! From the newsletter: - Full-featured surround processor/tuner with Dolby Digital EX, ProLogicIIx, Dolby Virtual Speaker, Dolby Headphone, DTS, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6 and Stereo Bypass modes. - Unmatched range of audio, video and digital inputs including...

    rms wattage discrepencies among brands?

OOPS! My Parasound amp is NOT listed at 750 watts of draw. It is listed at a maximum draw of 775VA, which I believe (I may be wrong here) converts into just about an even 700 watts of maximum electrical draw. By the way, each channel has a maximum output of 30 amps! Bill

Do I really need a parametric EQ for my new SVS PB12-Plus/2?

With my BFD, my sub is flat within (+-) 1 db from 20-85 hz, and is down only 3.5 db at 16 hz. To tell you the difference in sonic terms...without the BFD the SVS is loud and clear, SLIGHTLY boomy on bass plucks and kick drums. It just sounds a bit boomy and muddy, with a few bass notes...

    rms wattage discrepencies among brands?

Just for giggles, lets look at my "85 x 5" Parasound amp. I had it tested by an electronics buddy. When I bought the amp, I called Parasound and asked them if I would get more power per channel if I only ran 3 channels (many receivers are rated at, say 100 x 5 at 1khz, and actually put out about...

    Equalizer options?

I also use Behringer for all channels. For the sub, I use the Behringer 1024 DSP 12 band stereo fully parametric EQ (as do MANY others here). For each of my other speakers, I use this 31 band digital 31 band stereo EQ. I have the calibrated microphone that matches these equalizers, and in about...

PE/Dayton Tiny Mighty Subwoofer is dying, what now?

A few years back, SVS was introducing a new line called the PCi series. It replaced the original powered cylinder series called the PC line. After waiting on the list for a few weeks (pre order) I received my 16-46PCi. When I opened the box I laughed at the size of it (40 gal. water heater-ish...

Sub eq good, speaker eq bad?

I EQ everything. Some people say that it degrades the signal because you are adding something into the signal path. I worked at a radio station in college, and I have seen a recording studio. I have seen the equipment bands use. They all include equalizers and signal processors of various types...

quality speakers that don't break the bank

I LOVE my Axioms M80s, 150 center and QS-8 surrounds. They sound fantastic and mate to my SVS 16-46 PCi very well. If I was to recommend speakers in your price range, I could tell you that Axiom makes some fine speakers that would fit your budget. However, I can't do that. Speakers are the...

    Thank You SVS!

Duh! It's right next to Sea World! :D

    Thank You SVS!

My brother was going to buy a new SVS sub because of my recommendation. I told him they were elite subs with even better customer service. About the time he was looking to buy one, a deal came up on ebay for a 16-46 PCi with a "buy it now" price of $450, and I think shipping was negotiated...

How to bottom a SV Sub.

Thanks SLL! After the ugliness of the dreaded Outlaw haters here, I became more of a "lurker". By the way, my 950 will be the hub in my theater for a long, looooong time, as will my Axioms and my SVS. The only thing that may change in the forseeable future is the DVD player. I really am...

How to bottom a SV Sub.

Lena, Consider turning the Outlaw's sub gain all the way up and turning the gain on the SVS down. I don't know how this will sound (grainy, hissy, etc.) but if it sounds good this way then turn the Outlaw back down 2 or 3 points and adjust the SVS, then SUPERGLUE the gain knob on the SVS!!!:D...

    Parasound HCA-1205A vs 855A

My 855 did not put out appreciably more power into 1 channel...it wasn't written down but it was only a few watts. In the case of my 855, the power supply was ample to drive all channels at once, but the power was limited by the rest of the components in each individual channel's path. After...

    Parasound HCA-1205A vs 855A

I have never seen an amp that could "steer" its output. If an amp puts out more power into fewer channels than it does into all channels, it is because of one of two reasons. Either A:channels are being mechanically and electrically bridged into a single channel, or B:the power supply is not...

    Parasound HCA-1205A vs 855A

Not an S&V review of the 855. All channels driven into 8 ohm loads MY 855 puts out about 93 watts. It puts out between 135 and 140 watts into each channel with a 4 ohm load - all channels driven at once. Dynamic short term output is about 2db higher before clipping begins. I had it tested in...
