I'm now seeing that same compression when I play DVD's (not Blu-Rays). I watched a screener tonight, and the dark scenes looked terrible. Of course, these discs aren't mastered very well (they're for SAG Awards consideration), but I'm now worried that my TV is defective.

I'm using an ethernet cable coming directly from my modem through Spectrum Cable. Can you suggest a better method?

The RCA cables are connecting the audio out from the TV to the back of the receiver. There's no other way to connect the two. There's no HDMI input on the receiver. It's always the left channel regardless of which speaker I'm using.
