Yeah, I always wondered how CRASH ever won Best Picture. Definitely overrated.

I agree with HURT LOCKER

Definitely agree with AVATAR. The movie is crap!

Everyone picks on AMERICAN HUSTLE, but I thought it was great.

GONE WITH THE WIND is an epic for its time and forever. I don't see how that is overrated.

I'm thinking 1995 Braveheart, that I didn't see at the local Odeon. I saw a really overrated film of same composer James Horner, APOLLO 13 at the MGM screen 1 at least 14 times. :P It had demo music demo dialogue demo Foley effect demo sound effects it was demo overrated. :thumbs-up-smiley:

Someone was telling me I should see Breveheart, which I later brought on DVD early 2000's.

GRAVITY is demo near-field mix so overrated, dreadful, demo dialogue panning I think Ed Harris, voice panning around the room was :thumbs-up-smiley: excellent overrated, he never sounded better and best performance by a actors voice in 40 years.

ROCKY I not watched it as much as ROCKY II in the past or ROCKY III or IV. V was so underrated

AVATAR too much near-field needs to be FAR FIELD MIX to be overrated  Actually I only like the last 20 mins of the film that I have bookmarked. James Horner score sound cool with overrated choir voices that gives it a pre-overhead surround effect you need to listen with overrated-hearing.

If anything, Citizen Kane is still underrated. As is 2001.
I agree but at the same time, how can any movie live up to the laurels that have been given to Citizen Kane or The Godfather or 2001 or Vertigo or even more entertaining fare like Star Wars or Jaws or Raiders Of The Lost Ark or Titanic? You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger Star Wars fan than me but if I saw it for the first time today, I can guarantee I'd wonder why it was THAT beloved.

Titanic, 10 minutes in I was looking at my watch. Same with 2001. Citizen Kane is still one of the greatest films ever.
Oh, what a thing to say.

I was into the film and had my listening ears on for 3 hours. Watched TITANIC at the cinema 13 times and even projected it when working for Warner village cinemas. I watched TITANIC on region 1 DVD week before last , and have many near*field DVD and bluray but I'm sure the THX laserdisc AC-3 is better.

I recall seeing an overrated The Godfarther at the Cannon screen 1, down town. It was snoozerrrr dialogue-rama. The only thing that was exciting was when the helicopters hovered overhead shooting up the gangsters.

The best overrated film with now and then dialogue pans for 3 hours and longer DANCES WITH WOLVES, John Barry score was heartbreaking at times. But The Bor-farther part III was like 2.5 hours of wet paint drying on the walls.

I think the thread should be titled Love It or Hate it.

I have to admit, these threads make my skin crawl.

Perhaps a more accurate title is: "The films that most other people like more than I do"

I do always love the inclusion of Titanic and Avatar, though. The guy made TWO films that grossed $4.5B total, consecutively. After 12 years of Star Wars, Disney, Pirates, LOTR, Harry Potter, Shrek 2, Spider-Man, and Batman trying to break that record...he just did it himself. Probably just luck, though.

If you think Gone With The Wind is overrated, I can't help you. It's still the movie of movies, the one of which New York Times critic Bosley Crowthers once wrote: "There are really only two movies in the history of Hollywood - Gone With The Wind...and everything else!" I quite agree.

If you think Casablanca is overrated, you need help, taste, and the good sense God gave a lemon.

You're really going to claim The Godfather Part II is overrated?!? While one might argue that parts one and two are on par with one another, you cannot - repeat, cannot think Part II does not deserve its rightful place in the pantheon of all time greats.

But I do have to say, Crash and Rocky as Best Pictures have always baffled me. Especially, Rocky. The Champ (1931) with Wallace Beery is basically the same story, except that the champ dies at the end. Were that Stallone's Italian stallion had the wherewithal to drop dead at the end of Rocky so we could have avoided all of the needless and painful sequels. Hey, I don't want to ruin this one for you, but Sly wins in the end!

Slumdog Millionaire as Best Picture?!? - severely overrated!

Birdman as Best Picture - severely overrated!

Ditto for Argo, Titanic, and The Departed. Why Scorsese never won for Goodfellas, Casino, Raging Bull or even Cape Fear is beyond me!

I'm a little torn about Citizen Kane as I am about 2001: A Space Odyssey. I think both are great films but I distinctly don't approve when either one makes it into the top ten greatest movies of all time. Numbers 10 thru 20...now we can talk.

Overrated, anything Harry Potter billed as the greatest fantasy movies of all time. Wrong. That title still holds for 1939's other zeitgeist - The Wizard of Oz.

The Deer Hunter - yeah...overrated.

The Band Wagon - undeniably fun and colorful, but overrated.

The Adventures of Don Juan - tragically overrated

The Swimmer - severely overrated.

The Thomas Crown Affair - overrated, but with 60's chic good style and mod to boot.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - again, fun stuff, but really overrated for what it is. Okay, now let's all do the time warp again!
