The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

The Specials

--Best Buy, this week, has EXCLUSIVE LENTICULAR PACKAGING with their 2-D Blu copies of Home.  Also, save $5 when you buy Home and ANY one of these three Blu-ray titles:  Shrek, Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon.

--Best Buy also has an EXCLUSIVE RELEASE of the Blu-ray combo edition of Justice League: Gods & Monsters for $24.99.  Exclusive content:  Digital HD copy of Wonder Woman and Digital Comic "The Batman Adventures: Mad Love #1".  It also includes a figurine  I don't know who it is...so I asked my wife (who knows even less than I do about such things) and she says "it's a superhero with big boobs and pointy wings on her helmet.".

--The following Blu-ray titles are on sale this week at Best Buy for $4.99:  Rush, RIPD, Riddick, Little Rascals, Cowboys & Aliens, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Place Beyond the Pines, The Grey, An American Tail, This is 40, Snow White and the Huntsman.

--Best Buy is advertising "Up to $8 toward a movie ticket on Fandango to see Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation with the purchase of select specially-marked titles.  (In theaters July 31.)  The only title shown in the flyer, however, is The Mission Impossible Collection (Movies 1-4) for $14.99 on DVD and $19.99 on Blu.  That would be an incredible deal, if all fans of the series didn't probably alread own most or all of the films already.  Awesome gift for someone, I suppose.

--Best Buy Odds and Ends:  None to report.

--Target this week has an EXCLUSIVE RELEASE of Dreamworks' Home.  It contains thirty minutes of bonus content featuring 'Slushious the Flying Car" and more.  Also get a FREE POPCORM AND MEDIUM SODA at the target Cafe when you buy Home.  See movie package for coupon. Free offer not available at all stores.  Quantities limited and no rainchecks.

--Target is also advertising a deluxe Blu-ray gift set of Justice League: Gods and Monsters for $24.99.

--The following Dreamworks DVDs are on sale at Target this week:

$10:00:  Turbo, The Croods

$14.99:  How to Train Your Dragon 2, Penguins of Madagascar.

--Target has the following TV Shows on DVD on sale:

$19.99:  Suits: Season 4

$29.99:  Justified: S6, Pretty Little Liars: S5, House of Cards: S3.

--Target Odds and Ends: A FREE $5 TARGET GIFTCARD if you pre-order Pitch Perfect 2, Jurassic World or Minions at Target.com/preorder.

Thanks for the early RoundUp, Mike!

I will be reviewing Descendants on DVD when Disney gets it to me (can't believe they're not releasing this on Blu-ray). I'm also slated to review Home, but don't know if a 2D or 3D copy will arrive (if anything).

When the price dips another $5 or $10, I'll pick up the new Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Thanks for the prices, Mike! :)

I find that I usually save my MST3K buying for around Thanksgiving. Yeah, I run a year behind or so - but I've got enough Misty to go around as it is. And the savings are good enough that I dont mind the delays.

Thanks for the prices, Mike.

WHITE GOD is an absolutely sensational movie that I saw theatrically and thought, "I can't wait to own this,"but at $22.99, I'm going to make myself, since I've already bought a lot this month. For those remotely interested, it is definitely worth at least a rental, though, especially since most people didn't see it in theaters due to an unfortunately extremely limited run.

Nothing else of interest this week.

For those who use Vudu or other digital services, Paramount is giving away 1080p HDX VUDU downloads of the four previous Mission: Impossibles and you don't have to do anything except register and link your Ultraviolet library. Free beats even the sales that Mike mentioned, unless having the physical discs/bonus features is a dealbreaker, but I took them, because free is free. Here is the link:

Also -- WHAT is the point of releasing anything on VHS?

Has anybody ever actually heard of Kill Granny Kill?

Raise your hand if you're going to get it.

Anyone?

I appreciate you giving us the information, Mike, but I am really straining to understand the significance or value to the releasing studio of putting out a VHS edition of this or any title.

Mondo, the folks behind some of the fine screenprints of new posters for retro films (e.g. Dragonslayer), have been releasing some limited edition VHS releases as a "retro is cool" thing. While I get that some audiophiles will note that LP may offer superior audio quality, VHS is both inferior audio-visual quality and is a deteriorating format.

I get the nostalgia for browsing the isles at the local video rental store and seeing all the d-level rentals with great cover art (Ghoulies anyone?), but this takes collecting to an even more absurd place than it already exists at.

As someone who owns too many Darth Vader collectibles, which itself seems to be an attempt to purchase my childhood, I don't get why anyone would want a VHS of anything. I still crave an official release of "From Star Wars to Jedi" so I can retire my last VHS tape.

Justice League is on the way for tomorrow. I'm hoping to watch it tomorrow night, but, ya know...that never ever happens.

Signed by who?

Also, that Mission: Impossible VUDU promotion I linked to above appears dead. It worked for my VUDU account for some reason but my other friends who have tried it lately have reported that they're only available paid, so I guess I was the beneficiary of some temporary glitch or something.

Well, I really thank you--I got them also thanks to your link! I have all of the hard copies (including M1 on VHS) but it is really nice and convenient to have the digital copies as well. Many thanks.

My review of MST3K: Vol. XXXIII is now available.

As for Best Buy's Mission Impossible promo, the four films are also available individually with $8 Movie Cash vouchers enclosed. If you have a large family, and don't own any of the previous entries, that may be the way to go.

Ugh. I am SO FAR BEHIND in getting the upcoming WRU together!

The reason: Amazon has changed it's search function for DVDs/Blu-rays and I am at a loss to figure out how to filter new releases so that it makes any sense for me.

This is not unlike what I went through a while back with Best Buy.

I even chatted with an Amazon rep tonight and she really didn't seem to have any understanding of what I was talking about.

This makes my task VERY difficult. Don't hold your breath Rounduppers...
