After having months of issues with wireless for my DirecTV, I would like to connect to the Internet via Ethernet. I have an HR44 receiver and currently have a cord connected to the router, but for some reason the receiver isn't recognizing it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I never had much problem getting my HR20 to recognize the cable, but a few quick things.

Does the ethernet port on the back have a light (??green) that at least shows a connection is active?
If not you could have a bad port connection or bad cable though I'm assuming the HR44 has the light like the older models.

Is there possibly something in the menu system that allows you to turn on the Ethernet (??turn off wireless and/or activate Ethernet).

Reboot both the router and HR44?

If you go into the router setup/configuration can you seen the DirecTV receiver listed

Redo network setup on the Directv receiver....it should find the connection....if not may be a bad port. And I believe the Directv receiver has 2 Ethernet ports, but one is not active, the other one is.

This doesn;t happen to be your thread by any chance? If not then it may have more detailed information

http://www.dbstalk.com/topic/205821-changing-hr44-from-wireless-connection-to-ethernet

The seems to summarize the best sequence for 2-3 different posters

"I had this problem today and discovered this:
- Once wireless has been configured on the HR44, it is "stuck" in that configuration until the network settings are reset to defaults

So - if you want to go from a wireless configuration back to ethernet / wired, you have to enter network settings, reset to defaults, then redo network setup. Once I did this, my configuration was fully based on a single ethernet connection to my LAN network on which my TVs, HR44 and internet router are connected."

I think when you reset to default and reboot it will do the rest automatically. Apologies if you've already tried this, but it sounds liek the HR44 doesn't have a simple -- turn off wireless and once it's setup this way it disables/blocks the wired port.

I only see one ethernet port on the HR44, but I do remember some older models having more than one.

Thanks for all the tips, guys. David, not me in that forum, but it sounds like a similar issue. I will try these ideas tonight, and let you know how I make out. Thanks again!

So resetting to defaults and trying to redo network settings didn't work- it never picked up my LAN. Any thoughts?

Assuming the ethernet port is working I'm not sure without looking at it in person.

When in doubt reboot everything I guess. I'd register over at DBS.com and have the guys there see if they can help out. Many of them
there are installers for a living plus 10-15 years users.
