I've auditioned the Polk, and they're very crisp, without sounding thin. That's an old Sony you're looking at. While it is a fine receiver, I'd look at comparable Yamaha models.

Depends on what your budget is. I can't find the Polk set for under $300 for that I would look at something else. It's a good sounding set I just don't think it's worth $300. I would go with the Polk TL1900 for the same money Now the Monoprice is supposed to be a rip off version of the Energy Micro that got good reviews. I haven't heard it but for $230 it's not a bad way to go.
