I have always had a passion to have a giant, beautiful TV (With a matching picture) when I got my first house. Ever since I was a kid, I had a knack for large TVs. (Im 22 now, first home, 65" Samsung LED TV)

I always see though the odd man out saying that DLP is (was) the best, LCD is better than LED, LED blows them all away, Plasma has the best color, etc.

From the TV's i've personally seen I would rate them from (edit) Plasma < DLP < LCD < LED.

I personally think LED looks the best, I love the colors, the contrast is great, nice deep blacks, and the price is just dropping and dropping. (Picked my 65" Samsung up from Best Buy for under a grand)

I have saw a lot of arguments that DLP is the best (Price wise, you can get a huge one for a couple hundred bucks used) but I just don't care for the start up/turn off time, replacing bulbs, sound of the fans, worries of overheating, etc.

Whats the best in your opinions? I have a rectangular/long living room, so I have plenty of room to get a giant TV, which I plan on doing one day this year. The DLPs are very tempting because of the price tag for their size. Found some 80" or bigger, 1080p, 3D sets for around $500.

What are your personal opinions? I would like to goto at least an 80" without selling a kidney and refinancing my home, lol.

"From the TV's i've personally seen I would rate them from Plasma > DLP > LCD > LED.

I personally think LED looks the best"

-- Not sure where you are going with these 2 statements - If I remember my basic math - ">" is a greater than symbol - so Plasma is Greater than DLP, witch it Greater than LCD - witch is greater than LED...

But then you say you like LED the best...???????

Get the one you like the best - doesn't really matter what others think, it is your money.

For what it is worth - Think your original order is correct - with Plasma being the best....if you can still find them...

The why: better black levels, no strange color issues when looking off axis, better screen uniformity (edge lit LCD/LED have issues here not seen in the other two) - good price for great picture/size.

I meant it like an arrow. Guess I should have put -->

So with correct terminology, this is what I meant: Plasma < DLP < LCD < LED.

Maybe I have never saw a good plasma then, because every one i've watched anything on, blacks seem more like grays to me. My LED is damn near pitch black when theres black and its by no means a top-of-the-line model.

I made this thread more to be a "What do you prefer and why" I guess. I like hearing real peoples real reviews and opinions. Different/better than just reading some paid-to-write articles.

OK then, let's be honest and just say it's CFL LCD vs LED LCD :). Backlighting is still a major factor.
Are any non-really-crap CCFL even made any more?

We all know my stance on LCD regardless, well the OP doesn't(LCD is crap.).

So here we are. Plasma no more. LCD or OLED.

OLED should win if consumers are smart buyers.

From a picture quality standpoint OLED>Plasma>CRT>DLP>LCD/LED
From an overall quality standpoint Plasma>CRT>OLED>DLP(one chip)>LCD/LED.

I can offer that when I was contemplating display options, the few plasma sets at best buy gave me an instant headache because I could see flickering like on the old crt computer monitors when they were set to 60hz refresh rate. Only, this plasma flicker was faster; I could look at pc monitors for a few minutes before feeling sick but this was immediate.

Also, whichever display makes you happy is best. Coming from no TV to an old ccfl 40 inch Samsung, to my new 75" edge lit model I'm satisfied.

Several pals on here and in person suggested a projector instead, but it wasn't practical given my room and I'll be honest after crawling around in the attic to run the rear surround speaker wires and install 6 recessed can lights I pray to anything that might hear me to not have to go back up there ever again.
