Hi, I've been lurking trying to find an answer to my question but I haven't had any luck.

I have a 32" Haier TV (Model le32f2220 here: http://www.haier.com/us/products/home-entertainment/led-tv/le32f2220.shtml)
and an Aveis DVD Home Theater System (HT1554TS)

I can get audio playing through the speaker system when I play a DVD, but not when I am watching TV (no cable, using an HD antenna) or have my laptop connected via HDMI.

I followed the Aveis manual and connected the red/white/yellow cables from the DVD player to the red/white/yellow spot on the TV (says composite).

Is there another cable that I need to get surround sound audio playing through my TV or Laptop (via HDMI)?

Thanks

I assume you're connecting your laptop to the TV via HDMI (as opposed to connecting the latptop to the home theater system via HDMI).

The problem is that you need to get the audio from the TV/laptop INTO the home theater system.

According to the link you provided, your TV has a coaxial audio output (a single RCA-style connection). In all likelihood, the audio for any external source you connect to your TV will be output here

Therefore, you need a corresponding audio INPUT on the home theater system. I could not find any detailed information on the system you listed, but you can look on the back to see if it has any audio inputs. If you're lucky, there will be a digital coaxial input that matches the TVs output.

If so, then it's easy - get a single RCA-style cable and connect the two that way.

If your home theater system has a digital optical connection(also called Toslink and looks like a little square with a flappy door on it) or simple stereo analog inputs (Red/White RCA connector pair), then you'll need a converter to complete the connection.

Once you connect the TV audio output to the input on the home theater system, you simply set the TV to the appropriate input and set the home theater to the secondary input and you should be all set.

Worst case scenario - your home theater system has no audio input, in which case you're stuck.

Pictures of this HTiB would help. I came up blank.Or, you could tell what audio input options it has.(Does this HTiB not have HDMI?)

Thanks for the help guys. I tried the HDMI port prior to making the post, but I couldn't figure out how to get it to display from the options on the receiver remote. Here's a pic of the receiver remote:

I went and purchased a coaxial cable after reading this post to try and get the audio, but no luck. Here's the cable:

As requested here are images of the back of the receiver:

and the back of my TV:

With the coaxial cable connected, I can't figure out which settings to use. Here is a pic of the TV settings:

and a pic of the TV remote:

Hope this provides more clarity.
Thanks again.

In addition to the converter, you wil also need a toslink cable to connect the converter's output to the home theater system input.
