John Lasseter will directhttp://www.wdwinfo.com/news/Television_and_Film/John_Lasseter_to_direct_Toy_Story_4.htm
At first, I read the headline and thought, "Oh, lord, are they STILL quoting that one rushed reporter-blowoff Tom Hanks threw on his way out of the Golden Globes two years ago??"TravisR said:Just like every other time they've announced a new TS movie, I get worried because the last one was so good that I don't want to see them go back to the well one time too many. Of course, they've managed to pull it off each time so my hopes are high for this one.
It's worked out rather well for Disney, too, unless you'd rather watch Chicken Little and Home on the Range over Wreck-It Ralph and Big Hero 6.Edwin-S said:Pixar being bought by Disney has been the worst thing possible for the company from a creative standpoint. Financially, it has been a massive win for all of the main principals of the company.
Also, although the sequels they had to make (TS3, Monsters, Dory), to clean up Eisner's old Circle 7 Studios mess, had fans wailing and tearing their hair that "Oh no, they're making sequels now!...They've become a REGULAR STUDIO, like all the others! ", even then, it was clear they didn't want to make "regular" sequels unless they had an unusual enough story to make it a distinctive enough film on its own:Simon Massey said:Its not just the worry each time a Toy Story film is announced that it won't be as good as the last anymore. Not only has every film been great, they equally have a perfect trilogy that has come to a natural close narratively and Im not sure where else they can take it without it seemingly repeating themes from the others. This one, unlike the others, feels like a cash-in.
Me too....my kids still make fun of me every time someone mentions the Toy Story franchise.classicmovieguy said:"Toy Story 3" had me bawling like a baby - I had to wear my sunglasses exiting the theater because I was a MESS. I can't imagine how they'll top the third but will keep an open mind.
Our daughter (born 1986) just happened to be making that (sometimes difficult) transition from little girl to teenager at exactly that time (TS2 came out in 1999). I can't get through it without being reamed emotionally. Which is why I just HAD to select it as the song for our Father-Daughter dance at her wedding.dpippel said:That scene completely trashed me emotionally too Mike! I still weep when I watch it.
I saw TS3 with a hard hearted, cynical buddy and I got lucky because I only teared up during the incinerator scene so by the end of the movie, I was OK and he didn't catch me.atfree said:Me too....my kids still make fun of me every time someone mentions the Toy Story franchise.
You can do the next best thing. Or better yet, you can remind him of Hunchback II.Ejanss said:(As for Iger proposing his own initiatives for Pixar sequels, yes, we fans occasionally wish he'd shut up, too, but working for Disney, you can't punch the boss. Much.)
My concern is that they produced, IMHO, the perfect trilogy with the perfect ending. The story is complete. How can they possibly add to it without it being disappointing? I worry tHat they are going to the well one time too many.TravisR said:Just like every other time they've announced a new TS movie, I get worried because the last one was so good that I don't want to see them go back to the well one time too many. Are you serious? I'm not sure. Different strokes and all that, but a disaster? Surely you jest?Alf S said:Hesitant but they might be able to redeem themselves after that depressing disaster that TS 3.
