Those of you who read these short discussions will know that I appreciate broadcast media on Blu-ray.  In terms of quality, there is no comparison to the heavily compressed data to a Blu-ray.

As space becomes an issue for disc-media collectors, I also have a tendency (yes, even when not receiving screeners) to replace annual sets with compete series, as when properly re-packaged, they take up measurably less space.

So it is with the four Spartacus sets.  Anchor Bay / Starz' new Complete Series comes in (not the Limited Edition) at only about a couple of inches in thickness.  If additional space savings is in order, the discs themselves are contained in a CD-sized book (all 13 of them) and in an even thinner form factor.

For those who desire to own the set, which has many interesting uses for live mixed with digital content, the Series concept offers a huge savings.  Currently under $70 on Amazon vs. closer to $120 for individual annual sets.

For anyone interested in digital technology, and how it can be combined with live action to sometimes startling results, it's worth the price of admission.  Especially at $17 per season.

Robert, I wonder if you have seen my thread here:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topic/335572-does-anyone-else-feel-extreme-pressure-to-buy-tv-on-blu-ray-to-help-continue-releases/

I also feel the same way, and since I happen to have a DVR, I have taken to recording series (to try and help the ratings) and then waiting for the BD to actually watch the show. I really can't watch broadcast anymore, and I worry about the future of TV on the Blu-ray format.

This right here is a great excuse. I can see it now:

Husband: "Honey, we have to get Spartacus: The Complete Series on Blu-ray!"

Wife: Isn't that the show with all the graphic violence and sex in it?

Husband: Yes, there's a bit of that, but you know how I've always been "interested in digital technology, and how it can be combined with live action to sometimes startling results".

Wife: That sounds too erudite for you, you're quoting Robert Harris again, aren't you? Know what I think? I think you just want to see that Xena woman naked--

Husband: Look! There's a sale at Kohl's! Let's go!
